Let me say that I wouldn't put 18 and 19 year old in the same "bracket" as 13-17. Most 13-17 have to be in school by a certain time and if anything happens to them, their parents/guardians are responsible, that is not the case w/ 18-19 yr. olds. I think it all lies w/ the parents. If the child is OK to stay up sure, but be reasonable. My children are 7,8, and 2. Their bedtime is 9pm. They used to go to bed at 830p. They can't stay up any later because they are sleepy in the morning and they have to get up at 615am for school, so yes, they need to be in bed by a reasonable time.

when i was a teenager i could stay up till whenever, as long as i was quiet. my parents would encourage me to go to bed early but said that it was me who was gonna be tired all the next day, not them so do what i want.

p.s. jacuzzi lover, 18 years old and has to be in bed by 11, thats one of the most crazy things i've ever heard. the kid could move out and has a bedtime!!!!

I'm 19 and I don't have a bed time. When I was in high school like 9th and 10th grade I needed to be in bed at like 11.

Well, I'm 14 and my parents gradually lessened their concern about this as I got older. As long as I don't stay up ridiculously late(like 2 or 3AM) then it is for the most part at my discretion. In my opinion, it should be this way for all teens.

My son is 15 years old. His bed time is 10pm but he is allowed to read until 11pm on school nights. When he has trouble sleeping I allow him to read or listen to music but not use the TV or computer.
