You need a minimum of 1 GB ram to run the AERO feature. Moreover the graphic drivers should be WDDM signed drivers (Windows Display Driver Model) . This is the new graphic driver model for video cards running under Windows Vista. Almost all the new graphic card drivers are WDDM.

Also you can run a WINSAT (Windows System Assessment Tool) to check the compatability of the computer for running different features including AERO

You can run winsat by click on Pearl button and search and click on run
type cmd and click ok
In the command prompt type "winsat -v " without double quotes and press enter and check the results

2 gigs Minimum
I was running 1.2gig and vista core system is using 800 megs. It will take 2 gigs to act as well as 1 gig used to in XP

Whatever they suggest is what you should at least have.

I'd think having 1024 MB of RAM would be a good starting point, anything under that may be slow..

Are you getting blue-screens or is the PC just locking up?

It may be your video drivers too... check the vendor's website for vista fixes.

It won't run unless you have enough memory, so it's not going to crash. Windows Aero also requires 128MB of Video Memory in addition to 1GB of RAM.

Try running Ubuntu Linux instead. Save the cash for something useful like dirty magazines.
