always ask for some reason if you tell a teenager to do something they just wont do it or will argue. Im 21 and if someone TELLS me to do something i just feel annoyed where as if someone were to ask me nicely id probably do it if it was something i could do.

I always asked my children if they have homework and if is done. My rule was they could not play with friends until it was finished and I always checked that it was done. If they lied about having homework to go play more than once they were told they could not play with friends during the week until the homework started getting done first. My daughter started getting hers done in class or in daycare, so she could play when she got home. After awhile, I didn't have to ask or check and it was always done and done well. I will add that I always helped them with their work if they needed it and to make sure they were doing it right and not quickly just to get it done. I also showed them what the difference between an A project was and a C project was. They have to know that getting an A means doing more than what the teacher asks. That's why most of our children don't get A's, they are only doing what the teacher asks and that is usually C work. My daugther became a straight A student with no help from me after age 12, she's awsome.

No I didn't ask my teenagers to do their homework, I told them if they have any they better get it done and don't lie to me about not having any homework. I'll call their teachers and ask them.

I'm a teenager and I always hate it when my parents tell me to do my homework. Normally when they tell me to, I won't do it just to spite them. If I was a parent I would just ask later at night if they finshed their homework, or possibly needed any help on it.

I guess you need to make them understand the importance of doing their homework and of being committed in life in general . Then you will not need to ask or tell them.

I used to ask my kids if they needed help with their homework. If I didn't hear from the teacher I assumed everything was ok.
