my cat is on special dietary food called Z/D coz he has issues in his bowles! and thats the only food he can have, it would be so much easier if i could mash it up in meat or cheese but it will play havoc with his digestive system! ad this Z/D is like eating fresh air apparently as it tastes so bland and boring so it takes him long enough to eat it on its own never mind if i put his tablet init!

I wrap my cat in a towel, open her mouth by lifting her head back and drop the pill near the back of her mouth. She will then swallow the pill. Good luck.

Look for a "COMPOUNDING PHARMACY" in your area that can use the pill ingredients & turn the medicine into something the cat will eat. They do this with people also. If parents cannot get their kids to take medicine, the "Compound Pharmacist" can make the medicine into lollipops or gummy bears, etc. That way the kids are getting the same meds in a form they will take with not problems....
There are also pet pillers Or as some others have said, get a pill crusher from the store, crush the pills & put them into the cats favorite food.
Cats are a booger to give pills to & when they get wise to what you are going to do, it makes it even harder....Also, call your vet & see if the same medication is available in a liquid form. That might be easier. Just be sure to administer it slowly so it all gets in there & not just running out of it's mouth.

We found that crushing tablets & adding to a spoonful of margarine, then smearing it round cat's mouth got them down. No cat's going to sit there for long with margarine its face without cleaning it off... somewhere I've seen similar suggestion, but putting the margarine on top of its front paws.
With a friend's elderly cat who was on daily kidney medication, tablets crushed & hidden in mashed coley (a disgusting smelly fish, cheap but cats seem to like it) worked. It didn't do much for the air quality of the house while cooking it, though! Good luck!

As all and sundry's mentioned, the classic technique is wrapping the cat in a towel, putting it into its mouth, keeping the jaw, then stroking its throat. whether, i've got had cats who're a strategies too crafty for this. they'd the two spit the pill around the floor, play lifeless (very frightening) or by some potential pretend swallowing it -- we would locate the pill on the floor hours later! So yet another technique that worked grew to become into masking the pill in marmite(!). surprisingly adequate some cats definitely love marmite. via fact the marmite is so good it takes away the scent and flavor of the pill so our cat would truthfully p.c. to consume it. we would basically roll the pill on the floor and the cat would pounce on it and consume it. in case your cat does not like marmite you may attempt another good paste/meals they like.

I sit on mine. I don't put any weight on them, but I kneel with one leg on either side of them, crossing my feet so they can't back out. This trapps their back feet, and they don't really fight me much with the front feet. There's a syringe-type thing you can get that you put the pill into , insert into their mouth, and release the pill into the back of their throat so there's less chance of them spitting it out. Also, you could try rolling it into a ball of cheese, meat, etc.
Or do what I do and ask for the liquid. Good luck!

There's the wrapping in a towel method, but you won't be able to get away with that for too long.
What I do with mine is once it's in their mouth, I gently hold their mouth shut and blow slightly in their face. That makes them have to swallow. You have to do this pretty fast though. You sound like you can get it into his mouth, it's just getting it down. This might help.
Good luck!

I use a plastic pill-popper I got from the vet. You load up your "gun", kinda squeeze the cat between your knees and go in the side of the mouth at the back and "shoot".

They do have the pill pockets now that you can buy from your vet or at the pet store. I have never had to use them, but my niece did and she said they work very well. Good luck!!!

With my cat, I put it in a moist cat treat, stick it in his mouth, close his mouth and then while holding it closed, I blow on his nose "lightly" to induce swallowing...that seems to work really well!
