I think it all depends on you and your resources.

I had planned to have my children 2 years apart. We started trying when my daughter was around 12-14 months. We ended up having them 3 years apart. This worked very well for us as our daughter is rather spirited. 2 years apart would have been a tremendous challenge! I'm glad it worked out the way it did.

My friend recently had 2 of her children w/in 13 months of eachother. That has been a challenge, but I'm sure it will get much easier after the first couple of years. She's quite happy w/ the arrangement.

Your body does need time to heal after childbirth. I've heard it takes anywhere from 2-4 years to "restock" your nutritional stores. I'd say waiting a year before trying to conceive again would probably be the best thing for your body.

Especially if you're breastfeeding, I'd wait a year. While it's possible to breastfeed through a pregnancy, it's often the case that the milk supply drops during pregnancy. Breastmilk is so important the first year that I wouldn't jepordize your supply if you can help it.

Wait until your first is at least a year old to give your body time to heal. This advice comes straight from my own doctor's mouth.

As for being over 30, I would try to have that second baby before the age of 35 because it is a well-known fact that birth defects and complications increase after 35. Many women, of course, do have healthy children after 35, but is that really a chance you want to take?

So that is my suggestion... between the age of 33 and 35. That gives you a two-year window to get pregnant again and your kids will be spaced apart perfectly also. Good luck!

You should start trying to get pregnant so that they are about 2 or 2.5 years apart. That way your baby (now) will be a bit more independant and you won't be having to deal with two babes at once. Plus a two year age gap is pretty good. I have 3 kids and two of them are 2 years and 3 months apart. The other two are 16 years apart. It's better with the 2 and 3 month pair! :)

it is best to try to put them apart in age my about 2 1/2 to 3 years. That is close enough so they will have a friendship but far enough apart that they are different

Get another kid how are you getting your children. I hope it was a era and you meant have another child. Or did you adopt this child, because you do not mention anything about your spouse wanting another child i would check to see if your spouse is ready for another child before asking us on here.
