Be Careful, Wendy is obviously not from MN. I am. Here's the deal on your weapon: to transport in a vehicle, the gun must be unloaded and cased. In the case of handguns, a holster is NOT a case. This is if you do not have a concealed carry permit. MN has made so many changes in it's concealed carry laws in the last few years, it's about impossible to keep up. Check the site D.J. listed. I gotta say though, it's kind of a wierd question. Like a "B" movie. The gunfighting bounty hunter with the shotgun under the leather duster? I would think most "crooks on the lamb" would see you walking around with your shotgun, and either walk away laughing, or shoot you in the head before you got close to them.

You have to have a concealed weapons permit if you want to "carry" it. You can put it in a gun rack in the window of your vehicle in plain view with no permit, but otherwise, you are going to get in trouble one way or another. Get a permit! Problem solved.
