Hi Thomas, first, let me apologize for my lengthy answer. =) I first started having really bad migraines a few years ago. Just recently they got to be so bad I went to a doctor where she took my blood samples, etc. She found out I had very low iron, so she put me on iron pills. When that didn't help, she then sent me to a neurologist (brain doctor). I had an MRI done (xray of the brain) and nothing came up thank goodness. So the doctor determined that I suffer (after several tests he conducted) from Chronic migraines and Tension Migraines. There are actually 4 different types of migraine headaches that you can have that he told me about, these were the 2 that I suffer from. He put me on Topamax which I take once a night before I go to bed, and I have small headaches during the day, but no more migraines! He also informed me to stop taking the Over the Counter pills like Tylenol and stuff whenever migraines occur as your head can become adjusted to those, and therefore, stop responding to them. I highly suggest starting with going to see your doctor, then doing what they suggest from there. Good luck, and I hope this helped!!

I have suffered from migraines for years, also. The newest thought on prevention of them is to take 400 mg. of Vitamin B2
each and every day. I have just started this regimen, but don't
know how effective it will prove.
If I can catch a migraine just as it is coming on, really early on, sometimes drinking two cups of strong black coffee helps (that would be one mug). The caffeine seems to dilate the blood vessels and that sometimes prevents the headache from becoming full blown.
I have tried the newer prescriptions but they affect my heart, so I gave them up.
I have tried the older prescriptions, and cafergot would sometimes work, but again you had to catch it early and by the time you had the five pills down you wouldn't know if you were having a migraine or anything else. You just felt well, kind of speeded up, and buzzy. Not a nice feeling. So I gave that up.
The side effects were too unpleasant.
Besides if you miscalculated your timing at all, they didn't work anyway.
Some doctors have given fiorinal, and that is what I was given for my first migraine, and it worked. But it has phenobarbitol in it so it is dangerous to take too much of it. It can become addictive.
The best thing I've found is to lie down in a dark room and sleep as soon as I feel the headache coming on, but it's not certain. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a migraine.
So sleep isn't always the answer.
Things that affect migraine that I have found are air pressure changes. I always say I have a weather head. I know when the barometric pressure is going up or down by how my head feels.
When one is ill and worn down and then air pressure changes happen that can affect them, too.
Anyway, I'm going to give this 400 mg. of Vitamin B2 a three month go--my doctor recommended it, and see if it helps.
You know what they say about the tree falling the way it leans,
well I think migraines are like that, too. And I know stress can bring one on. But I don't know how much stress you have in your life.
Why don't you try the B2 and then after three months we can each put into Yahoo Answers whether it worked or not. Check with your doctor first.

First of all, you should learn how to relax. Usually people who is suffered from headache or migraine they don't know how to relax. I know there are a ton of medicine to help you but if you really want to get rid of it, root it out you should change yourself first. I know one medicine made from natural materials which is different from ordinary medicine stuff. If you want to know more about it in detail just send me a message. However think of what I said seriously. Thak you.

There is a good chance that you are under duress and your neck and cranial muscles tightens muscles and thus you have migraine headaches. Medicine is only temporary, PLEASE see someone to talk to and it does not necessarily mean a psychologist.
