I know God chastises his children who disobey him, so it is definatly a good thing to be disciplined by him!
I think it is hard to know when your being disciplined because it doesnt happen right away all the time, if ever. God can cause something to happen in 10 years because of something you did when you were younger. He can discipline you using the same thing you disobeyed him with, (not tithing, thus you get fired and dont have the income) or using something completly different (not tithing, thus you get bad arthristis).
NOw these situations are STRICTLY hypothetical, and probably never even have happened, I dont know if people get arthritis from God, so dont think I am saying that, just an example.
I am sure I have been in my life, but I can say which bad things in my life are because of what sins.

The way this world works, sin leads to discipline naturally. Read Proverbs 7 regarding sex, for example, as it is very true. See, under grace, all things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. Some things will naturally screw you over, but under grace, we are free from judgment; therefore, you should walk consistantly in the Spirit so that you might not sin, because sin is the path to death.

God loves every one of us, however those who refuse to accept his love, do not benefit from his love except in a general sense. God disciplines his children just like earthly fathers do their children just in different ways. He doesn't beat you with a stick but He allows situations which will prove to be for your own good which you may not understand at the time of it but when it is over, you will thank Him for doing it that way instead of the way you thought it should be done. Not everything we want in life is best for us, but God knows what is best for each one of us and we may have to endure some tough times, but no matter what we go through here in this life, God will reward us with eternal life if we serve and love him and do His bidding, (not ours) til the end. If you believe Jesus, then, repent of your sins, confess Him before men, and be baptized into Christ for the remission of sins and be faithful til death, you will have that home in heaven. Read Acts chapter 2 and find the Church which bears Christ's name near you. (Church of Christ). Enquire there about salvation.

Yes. I was always considered a patient person. Unfortunately, many people did not know that I harbored a deep anger (which stemmed from events in my childhood, involving a sister who terrorized me). I have always allowed people to walk all over me, but once it reached a certain point, I would explode. I would release my wrath, which ended up in physical violence. I would "black out" and not remember some of the things I did.
The last episode I had was a few years ago, when I was protecting my stepchildren from their abusive mother. She came to my house, she nearly broke my finger, and after several warnings, I threw her on the ground, was talked into letting her back up, she slapped me and then I punched her in the nose so hard that I not only broke it, but she had to have stitches inside and outside of her nose. She looked awful for weeks. Both of her eyes were black, too.
Well, we went to court and I knew that I would get off due to the situation and circumstances, but God had other plans. He allowed the judge to rule in her favor. He allowed the judge to dismiss all charges against her. He allowed the judge to order me to pay $2,000 worth of medical bills. He allowed the judge to place me on probation, which is now on my permanent criminal record. He also made it impossible (by my standards) for me to appeal, unless I wanted to stay in jail until the court date. My probation officer could not even believe that I had gotten such a judgment from the judge (and you know probation officers don't care about your why's as they have heard it all--and he was a tough one too).
So, talk about being disciplined--I was. I have learned a lot through that experience. God has changed my heart for the children's mother, as I now pray for her, instead of harboring anger toward her.
I was being sinful and God chastened me.

Yes there are many times we have to go through trials and tribulations, or pay the consequences for our actions--I know God is with me, and still loves and forgives me, but I do have learn from my mistakes, and learn things the hard way--it is good for us too. He discplines us because He loves us- just as we do with our own children, because we love them too much to see them go the "wrong way"
Hebrews 12:10
Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.

Every day. He does it through various means. Nothing goes right or people work my last nerve. Perhaps I will feel guilt about something I did many years past but haven't asked forgiveness. It just varies.

You don't know exactly "how" you were disciplined, but you should know that alot of things that happen whether their bad or not happen for a reason. Alot of times God allows things to happen to you for you to wake up and give him your all. (be closer to him)

I have been disciplined.
When I was reluctant to tell people the gospel, I didn't feel good about it- I didn't have peace.
When I do obey God, He strengthens me

God forgives, however He will let consequences be as they may with any sin. I got in debt. God forgave me...but I still had to pay it back.
