Where were you before you were born? Why don't you have memories of that life? If you believe that you'll stay yourself in some heaven or hell after death, then why don't you remember pre-life? We're all going to the same black nothing when we die folks, and to believe in the fairy tales you were told as a child to pacify yourself to the grim reality is really pathetic. Religion is a cosmic joke!

I will answer this from a Catholic perspective.

We don't believe that we were alive before our conception in the womb. God created each and everyone of us at a specific moment in time. However everyone will live forever either in eternal bliss in Heaven or in eternal agony in Hell.

I have some points for you to consider:

1. Why do you say believe in an after-life is 'pacifying'? Is it not scarier to believe in Hell than in a 'black nothing'? Will the hope of heaven not bring about changes in a persons actions?

2. Not everyone is taught the faith as a child. Some of us are converts.

3. Religion is not a cosmic joke. I suggest that you read the work of great theologians like St Thomas Aquinas or about holy men like St Francic of Assisi. You might not have quite the same opinion then. Not many would call Aquinas's 'Summa Theologiae' a 'fairy-tale'!

You have more than one question here. I will attempt to answer your questions individually in a consistent manner...

It is taught by Saints in the Higher Realms that the only constant is change.

They also state that you can break free from hellish conditions by mending your deeds and meditating upon the Light --- which I imagin it is not easy to do once you have let yourself descend too far.

Now, after you transition to Spirit, you will eventually remember all of your past lives as you will be out of your humanoid form and free to retrospect a lot more easier and clearly.

Rose, the difficulty in your thinking is that Christians anyway, do not think we were ANYWHERE before we came to this life. There are other religions that do believe in reincarnation.

Before I became...I was an egg in my mother's body and a sperm in my father's body. They came together and just the right little swimmer made its way into the egg and I "became".

I am sorry you will be in the black nothing when you die. If you change your mind, call for me and I will reach out and pull you up.

some people believe that very young children to retain memories of the life between lives on earth, but those memories fade with time. When a person dies, they go to the summerland (Wicca) and wait for the next life. there are cases of people who are hypnotized and regressed to remember former lives. phobias can be linked to violent death in a former life. you don't have to believe if you don't want to, but don't ridicule those that do. Brian Weiss wrote several books about reincarnation, if you want to read more.

V r just a living being who has it's own limitations. there's a particular range of light where v r capable of to see things called visible range n there r few wavelenghs which v r capable of listning n so on for other senses. so that there must b a limit of our brain to which v can think but it doesn't mean that truth of life is limited to our range of thought.
I m not justifying old myths but life must b having some reason n what v see is not the only truth like sun seems to b mooving n earth stationary but u know truth is opposite, so life is too complicated to fully undstand with this body n brain.

I do not know where I was before I was born, as I lack memories of such a time, assuming that time existed. I do not see how belief in an afterlife, and memory in a previous life are as related as you make them out to be. Your point would be taken more seriously if you had a non-hostile dialogue.

Peace.

I am looking at your name and I just have to tell you a story...it is true...My husband's sister got involved with drugs to the point where she ruined her kidneys to just name a few of the things wrong with her but, anyway we learned that she was in a coma in the hospital. I found out that she had never been baptized or had any teaching of Jesus so I decided I would pray a Rosary for her. This was in the middle of November at the time and every morning faithfully I would bring my Father (who lived right next door) some breakfast. So the next morning I am taking his breakfast to him and right between our houses we planted a bush that was from my husband's grandmother's yard and we never really knew what it was or anything and it never bloomed or did anything but just sat there. Well, I passed that bush and there low and behold, in the middle of November, was a huge white bloom with a deep purple center. I found out that that plant's name is The Rose of Sharon and I bet you can never guess what her name was. Yes indeed, it was Sharon.

I actually have memories of two past lives (but neither was anyone 'important' to history...no kings or pharaohs....).

Ah, oblivion!
Yes, that is a popular choice.
I wonder how long it will take of 'nothingness going on forever' and you repeating 'I'm not here 'cause nothing's here' for you to get bored and reincarnate?

Yes, but to really get Cosmic jokes you have to 'get' the punchline and laugh......
Now think of the word "matter" as if it were a verb.......
Ultimate punchline = "Nothing Matters".

If you're not laughing, you didn't get it.

Just because someone believes in an after-life does not mean they have to believe in a before-life.
