Hello, I just turned 18 and my boyfriend is 16 soon to be 17. His mom does not like the fact that I am 18 (Basicaly a year and 4 months older then him) and is threatning to put a restraning order on me if I dont leave her son alone. Can she really do that? We are not having sex. We a simply a young couple who have been dating for about 6 months now. What should we do?

I'm sorry to say this...i know you don't wanna hear it, but while he is still a minor, his mom calls the shots. you two don't have a say in it. Wait for him to turn 18 and your free to do what you want.

good Luck

As far as I know you can only get into trouble in that area if you are having sex. Also your boyfriend is only a year younger then you, it's not like your in your 30's. I think that his mother is just being a little up tight. She can't get a restraining order on you for dating someone you've probably been dating for a while and who is only a years difference in age. Also the police would ask your boyfriend what he wanted as well, even though he's a minor he still has a say. His mother is just being over protective and just as long as you're not having intercourse you two should be fine.

Lets think about this logically. You are friends with a male who is almost 17 years of age. The male who is almost 17 years of age is friends with you. Both parties consent to this relationship and by your own admission there is no sexual relationship. Where is the crime and on what grounds can the mother get a restraining order ? Call her bluff .. tell her to approach her legal representative and to make an attempt to get a restraining order. Tell her to consider the facts before she initiates proceedings .. see how far she gets !!!!

Well, that's a funny story, same thing happened to me, check this out....I was 19 and I met a guy who just turned 17. Well, we fell in love, we've been together for 6 years, we have 3 kids and house and a great family! Listen girl, there's nothing wrong with what your doing. She's a psycho momma who just can't let her baby grow up. And no, she can't put a restraining order on you for that...she's bluffing. She could if he was 15. But he's a big boy now and mommy needs to let loose a little bit. If you love him, you never know, I was 19 ya know. good luck sweety - my heart goes out to you!!!!

She can do that but that would be silly of her. She is just afraid of losing her baby boy. Does she not remember you were just a minor too. But then again you really should be with an older guy because sooner or later you'll realize that because of his age some of the stuff you would want to do and can do he can't. Girls mature faster than boys, an older guy is best because your maturity level would be the same.

Yes, his mother can put one because he is a minor and she is his parent.
Simply put, unless you can jump into a DeLorean and go into the future, stay in touch only as friends nothing more, he will turn 18 in little more than a year.
It isnt really that long of a period of time, and its not his nor your fault.

Unfortunately, she can. maybe instead of dating him, you could spend time together with him at HIS house - while his parents are around - take the time to get to know them and let them know you - then they may be more comfortable with the fact that their son is interested in someone older. Good luck.

Your boyfriend is a minor and under the protection of his parents. His mother can do anything she feels is necessary to protect her son. If you really love each other wait until he turns eighteen.

Ignore the mother. If you like him, date him. He's a big boy, he can make his own decisions. Just be careful about sex. She could probably get you for rape if she finds out.
