Jesus could have gone to one. Alexander the Great, who preceeded Jesus (in case home-schoolers are reading this) was taught by Aristotle. Universities have been around way before Christ was born.

If we consider university simply as a higher education institution, then it could be Shang Hsiang, founded before the 21st century BC in China according to legend.Later Taixue and Guozijian serve as the highest level of educational etablishment while academies became very popular as non-governmental etablishments teaching Confucianism and Chinese literature among other things. The choice for the oldest university is usually among Constantinople, Al Karaouine or Al-Azhar universities. Nalanda University, founded in Bihar, India around the 5th century BC conferred academic degree titles to its graduates, while also offering post-graduate courses.

From what we understand of the times Jesus was the home schooled eqivalent of a college grad.

In those days the ELITE go their titles by act of the powers that be. Herod, for example, was given the rank of King because Ceasar gave him that title.

The Pharisees got their titles because of their life long apprenticeships in religion as Priests.

Jesus WAS an ARTISAN, which is HARD to understand because FEW people except the college trained are ARISTANS today.

A great plumber is an ARTISAN

But today for furniture we have IKEA and anyone who can assemble a bike with a screw driver can build a dresser.

JESUS was trained to make planks of wood out of trees, cut grooves into wood and fit one piece into another perfectly.

He was also trained in religion at the temple.

He was also trained to speak, at least, if not read Hebrew, probably a form of Aramatic and Greek, which was the official langague of the world prior to the Roman invasion.

Thus Jesus knew how to build things from scratch. Speak multiple languages and practise religion.

Many of today's college grads can't do that.

My cousin is a Math professor and he was shaking when my mother had him do her short form 1040A taxes, which is simple math. Income, Standard Deductions, Tax Tables.

It took him an hour and he was shaking when he finished and HE WAS A MATH PROFESSOR AT LACC, a college!

Those who can do...

Jesus was a DOER.

Not that I think you are really looking for an answer here, but I couldn't help myself.
During that time period there were two eduction routes for you. You could learn a trade, or you could study in the temple. Jesus did both. At a very young age Jesus went to the temple. He asked and answered questions and it was clear that, even at this young age, Jesus was fully aware of all the things that were to be learned there. As he grew he learned to be a carpenter at the side of Joseph. Towards the end of his time here on Earth the equivilant to our ivy league professors loved to try and trip him up with weird questions, but they always went away looking like fools because his knowledge far exceeded theirs.

Jesus Christ knew all the teachings, he talked to the Jewish priests and pharisees, who were not able to ask Him anything that He could not answer. Of course He could have also chosen to be a philosopher or some kind of intellectual too, but He obviously did not need it. On the contrary, He needed to prove that God's teachings are easy to understand by anyone, no matter one's level of education.

He probably would have gotten a bachelor or masters in business and expanded Joseph's carpentry into a regional chain. But he still would have stepped down in his early 30's to pursue the ministry. People change careers all the time.

By dying on the cross for our sins, He made something better of Himself....He became the final sacrifice needed and the Savior of the World.

You mean melded into the fold like everyone else? He would be indistinguishable, just like you have never heard of me in real life. "Success" by worldly standards is just cyclical, and it leads to nothing.

You would be hard pressed to say that Jesus didn't make something of himself, when he is probably the single most influential person to walk the globe.

"What would have happened if Jesus had gone to college and made something of himself? "

All Christians would be Jewish.

When Jesus existed, colleges didn't.
Still, God being all knowing doesn't need education.

Then everybody would pretty much HAVE to believe in God, since colleges weren't invented until 1,100 years after his death...
