I believe you are asking, what is an hors d'oeuvre? If that is the food you were looking for...It means appetizer or food served before the main meal or entree. This can range from fancy crackers with pate' to finger foods like chicken wings. I think of it as a snack before the feast.

You gotta spell it right first. Hors d' oeuvres. They're like appetizers or finger foods usually served as party snacks or a snack before a meal.

It is a french word for appetizer.

Some small food item that whets the appetite before the meal.

A wine bar I go to serves only wine and "heavy Hor'derves."

You can have parties where only hor'derves are served.. or they can be before a meal.

:)

Since neither one of us can spell it, I'll tell you "Whores de overies" was the pronunciation I heard as a kid...

It's french for appetizer. Finger food served before the main meal.

I think what you are looking for is "Hors d'oeuvre". .
Such as "Layered and Stacked"; "Wrapped, Rolled, Filled, Folded and Stuffed"; "Skewered and Threaded"; "Bites and Pieces"; and "Sips and Drinks," just to name a few.....are little bits of food that are easy to prepare and simple to eat before a dinner.

They're like little mini-appetizers, single serving bites before a meal. Like when people are mingling at a party they can just grab one or two little bites and be able to hold them on a cocktail napkin.

It's actually hors d'oeuvre - which just means appetizer. Something you would serve your guests while they are visiting prior to your meal.
