I imagine that a sponsored walk is something peculiarly British. Some people raise money for charity by going on a sponsored walk along a specified route. This means going to friends and acquaintances and getting them to sign a pledge to sponsor them, i.e. to pay £1, £1.50, £2 etc. per mile, depending on how generous they feel. There will usually be a photographer present to photograph the walker at the beginning and at the end of the walk. Then the walker will go round to each of the sponsors and collect the amount promised per mile, multiplied by the number of miles walked.

So I suppose "a girl on a sponsored walk" will be wearing good walking boots, will carry a hip-flask with water and may wear a sash or a T-shirt with of the name of the charity she is collecting money for. By the end of the sponsored walk, she'll be looking pretty tired and rather unglamourous. She may also look rather irritated at the number of times during the walk she has had to look for suitable bushes to pee behind.

Incidentally, it's not just sponsored walks that we have in Britain. We also have things like sponsored danceathons, singathons etc., or even sponsoring someone to sit in a bathtub full of custard. The sponsors would then pledge x pounds per hour.

This phrase would have come from a method, introduced by Greek astronomers,of finding the moon’s distance by observing a lunar eclipse. Imagine holding up a quarter (coin- diameter one inch approximately) at the distance where it just blocks out the sun’s rays from one eye. It turns out that the right distance is about nine feet away, or 108 inches. If the quarter is further away than that, it is not big enough to block out all the sunlight. If it is closer than 108 inches, it will totally block the sunlight from some small circular area, which gradually increases in size moving towards the quarter. Again, this is just the technical meaning of that phrase and I am not sure about the context in which that phrase is used in your novel. Literal meaning could change according to the context.

Its an ok Brit thing to go on a sponsored walk. The walker gets friends to promise an amount of money for each completed mile and this goes to charity. I guess she looked bored with it and tired.

Maybe it means like a model's walk. Since she is sponsored by the designer of the clothes.
Just a thought

Ignore Brian McBryan..Imagine having your name the same as you 2nd with just a Mic inbetween! Adn they've tried to disguise this by changing spelling! I know it's sad making fun of him because he have you complete rubbish. Look like a girl on a sponsered walk..hmm..maybe it would be a girl really into it or tired or something or maybe check your Italian?

ciao gio'...
usiamo un po' di logica. Sponsorship imply that someone is getting money for doing something... hmmm. the only situation when a lady would have any chance to earn money for a walk is
1- prostitution
2- being a model.

the sentence is usually derogatory, I'd go for option one.

I am sticking to english, so I don't disappoint or cut out other readers... :))
