The Poor Old Owl
Once upon a time there was an old owl who lived in a drafty hollow tree.
One day he pulled on a pair of warm socks. One sock had a hole in it, so he caught a darning needle to mend it with, but before he could finish he had also caught a cold. His eyes watered so much he could not see to sew, and he got laryngitis and lost his voice.
So now he couldn't hoot worth a darn or darn worth a hoot!
