The grammar that many people use when speaking and writing is atrocious! Wouldn't it be a good idea if teachers and professors of all subjects counted off on their students' grades every time the students used incorrect grammar while speaking and writing? After all, it would motivate some students to speak and write correctly and perhaps more people would become effective communicators.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, although the one thing I cannot always do, is what you have said - "counting off the student's grades every time the students use incorrect grammar while speaking and writing." I teach English, but as an EFL/ESL teacher. I need to encourage them to speak! If they are penalized each time they make an error, they will not speak to me. By letting them get away with some errors, I encourage them to keep speaking so I can keep track of the errors they still make. My goal is to help them become effective communicators in English, although it takes much longer as a Foreign/Second Language.

Yes, for sure.
However the only thing more annoying than bad grammar or spelling is people on Yanswers slagging people off for it when they need help. Not saying you do, but it really tic's me off. I'm dyslexic an struggle with it everyday.
I agree more should be done to help people but this an answers web page not an English exam.

Yes.... and you should be the first student.

If you are going to claim intellectual superiority, especially in English and grammar.... you better make sure that there are no spelling or grammatical errors in your statement.
