Where do you work that allows you to have visable tattoos? I'm in sales and technically I'm not allowed to wear my tongue or nose ring but I don't take them out, much less have any visable tats. They would really fire me for that.

I think the tongue wouldn't be considered a fad anymore, it was like you said ten years ago. The new fad is the nose rings which pisses me off because I've had mine for ten years.

I'm worried about getting anything visable because I'm in school to be a kindergarden teacher and I doubt any school would hire me with visable tats.

Two years ago I took my nose ring out for about a year because everyone was getting it done and it made me feel so mainstream. But then I realized my mom pierced it for me when I was 13 so why should I care how many people have it now. I put it back in and I will probabally still have it when I'm in my 50s like my mom does.

well most places now are becoming more welcoming of tattoos. most places as long as you wear long sleeves or whatever you need to do to cover them up you're fine.

i've worked in several factories and they normally don't care. but their not a fun job. i've worked in retail as well and it didn't really matter, i just wore long sleeves and they were fine with it. another place that normally dosen't care are like call centers. like customer service jobs and stuff. fast food dosent really care either. but it depends on the money you want to be making.

really the possibilities are endless, it just sounds like you've got a strict job. but really alot of places there are ways to work around it easily. unless you've got one on your hands or something.

I used to let them show, Upper right arm and left ankle. I designed them and was proud of them. But I also had them placed so as to be easily hidden. Now no one sees them because I am Muslim. No one has ever bothered me about them. Instead it attracts subtle interest because my dress and so on would never have people consider me a "freak".

It is amazing what people have going on under neath their clothes LOL.

My daughter had a job for 7 years at KFC before they noticed her pierced tongue. And she was management by then. She had it when she was hired. They kept her although she was sent nasty letters but good employees are hard to find and she stayed. Then she left to pursue her Masters.

LOL when she was after me for a tat, at 14, she would say "I promise to uphold only the best taste Mummy. I will put it so that if I want to show it off I can, but if I have dinner with a king, it can be hidden." She got a gorgeous arm band when she was 17.

Here some people have to wear bandages to cover piercings, other companies are fine. They make a statement by using bright noticeable bandages, in neon.

Nose rings, everyone and her uncle has a pierced nose.

BTW in some countries a pierced nose is a message that you are married. In some places it is a sign you are a slave. I was asked where my owner was once in the Middle East. A few hours later, due to intense heat, my nose stud fell out and I could not see for perspiration, where it landed. I left it and never replaced it.

My other piercings stay right where they are!

well, i work for a hospital and i have tattoos on the tops of my feet and i wear shoes but i can actually wear flip flops when my tattoos are healing. they are pretty laid back but i don't have patient contact. lots of people who work at the hospital have tattoos. and i don't know of any policy that doesn't allow them but they do have a policy against "fad" piercings. here is my question, how long does a piercing have to be popular before it is no longer a "fad" i know people who have had their tongues pierced for over 10 years... that's really not a fad anymore is it? ANYWAY, i am sure that if i had a tattoo that was visible on a daily basis at work (like on my arms) a lot of people would talk about me, since my supervisor already gossips about the tattoo that is on my back and NOBODY ever sees it.

There are lots of places that allow those kinds of things. All of my tattoos are in places where they can be covered up, but some are visible depending on what kind of clothes I have on. As a licensed insurance agent, I have no problems. I believe that people are getting more open to the idea of expression in the form of body art. I also have my tongue pierced which again has not been a problem.

I have tattoos all over both arms. I always wore long sleeve shirts to work in sales and customer service jobs. It's an image thing. People judge you based on appearance. Right or wrong it is reality. If you're in sales, you'll make more money without the piercings.

A lot of it depends on the company's attitude, or the attitude of its managers. As an employer I would prefer that my sales reps didn't have tatoos but a few of them have service tatoos (they're all 50 years +), I also have to accept its not my body and the choice was never mine. One of our administrator's has quite a few tatoos, but she's outgoing and all the employees and customers think she's the best. I had one mehndi on the palm of my hand and my business partner came unglued. Again, it all depends on the attitude or the people at the top.

I was thinking of getting a band on my wrist, so I understand, but there aren't alot of sales jobs that allow visable tattoos. People want you to be professional, and most don't think tattoos are professional at all. Pretty much you have to be a rock star or tattoo artist to be able to have vis. tattoos. I'm waiting.

I work as a professional piercer and in an office as a personal assistant for the boss of the company and another woman who works there.

As a piercer, its fine I have visible piercing and tattoo and lots of them. In the office, I don't have contact with clients or customers other than emails and phone calls, so I'm never seen.

Working in a Social service agency allows much freedom. A scorpion tattoo which is visible so they don't mind to much. Also a King's Cross which is visible. The boss is good where I work.
