on tuesday we had this horrible ice/sleet storm, we went out side, played in the snow, all's good right? over the night, we got about another 2 inches of ice and sleet, and everything was ROCK SOLID, you couldnt even tell we had been out the night before, our tracks were completely covered and everything was just a sheet of ice, it even held my 300lbs bf without cracking, so this is thick ice. only problem, our puppy refuses to go potty outside because she cant squat without sliding (the yard isnt too flat). we took her to work with us and she went in the parking lot cause the plow had come thru and tore it up, but since we got home at like 5, she's only peed outside 3 times, thats it. she wont poop at all. this morning i got her to pee, but i spent almost 45 minutes outside with her and she refuses to go. my bf couldnt take her to work again today, and i cant take her, so she has to stay home. she just refuses to go, she'll even just sit down and stare, like "take me in now"

this is only her second "snow" storm, the last one we had was an ice storm too. she knows she's supposed to go outside, she's 8months old now.

how much salt would be required to melt a 3in block of ice??? and will the salt hurt her feet?

Getting boots for her might help. This will give her some traction so she isn't sliding everywhere. You can also coat an area of ice with cat litter or sand to provide traction.

Beyond that, you may either have to just let her go inside (considering the extenuating circumstances, it may boil down to this - maybe keep her confined to one area and cover it with pee pads) or keep taking her out frequently until she goes. Winter sucks, doesn't it?

If you think your puppy is going to get constipated, you need to make her poop. You can do this by inserting the business end of an unlit paper match into her rectum to stimulate some action. (A baby supposity will have the same effect - but it's a bit messier.) After inserting the match, put the puppy on a down-stay for five minutes, then take her out.

This won't hurt your dog. It is worse to let your dog get constipated - maybe leading to a vet visit. Dog show people occassionally have to do this if they have a dog that won't go in a strange place.

Good luck!

whilst my dogs become as quickly as a puppy I experienced her using 'potty bells.' it incredibly is barely a ribbon with some bells on it I carry beside the door that jingle whilst she touches it. it is passable in view that when she rings them you already comprehend it is provided that she has to potty (and she or he does no longer comprehend if it incredibly is raining or no longer). That technique you at the instant are no longer taking the dogs out needlessly. (I lived in an house once I obtained her, so I are conscious of it incredibly is a difficulty to take them out so in maximum situations!) to instruct her i might take her nostril and ring them until eventually now we went out each and every time. She's almost 6 and besides the actuality that makes use of them ordinary. additionally i might repeat the word 'potty' whilst she pees/poops so she is undemanding with of what it way. That physique of strategies as quickly as we go out and you assert potty she does it suitable away. solid success!

Use some salt and/or water to melt out a spot for her. When she does go, praise her as if it's the greatest thing that has ever happened. Reward her immediately with a treat from your pocket. She'll get it.

Best to you.
