Some of my current projects:
National Ataxia Foundation ( http://www.ataxia.org/ ) -- Two users here have a form of Ataxia and while I find the users' begging for prayer annoying, I've donated to this organization in their name. *fingers crossed for a cure*

World Wildlife Fund for Nature ( http://www.panda.org/ ) -- I'm a big wolfie fan and a big tiger & lion fan too.

K9 Special Forces ( no webpage, doesn't accept donations) -- A Search and Rescue team that I work with from time to time, co-founder of the team.

I support both The CFF~Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Survivors of the Shoah.

The CFF is an organization that is helping people stricken with cystic fibrosis ( a serious lung disorder ) and their families find the best treatment options available, support, and hopefully a cure. CF is the most prevalent genetic disorder, and one of the most deadly.

Survivors of the Shoah is a non-profit organization founded by Steven Spielberg to preserve the stories of Holocaust survivors, so that history will never forget.

Each April during our local university's Holocaust Rememberance Days, I volunteer (along with thousands of others) to spend 15 minutes reading the names, birthdates, date and place of death of some of the 6,000,000 Jews killed during the Holocaust. It's an emotionally exhausting task that leaves me drained for days afterward.

There's also my local Humane Society, but for issues of safety I prefer not to post its website here. Instead, I encourage others to support the Humane Society in their areas.

I volunteer to cook meals and serve for the local homeless shelter. I do work for the local domestic violence intervention program. I prefer to use my money and time for projects that I know are filling the needs of people directly rather than being funneled through a large organization such that only a small percentage actually gets to the target.

I don't believe in "charities" cause only about 10% actually gets to what it was collected for. I'll give to the needy themselves but I refuse to give to a charity. I'm not paying someone else's beer tab!

I haven't found one that I'm willing to donate to. I want to go to Ethiopia and help out though. I'm not really rich so I feel that my hands would be worth more than my money.
