A virus in 'me' may cause a 'virus' in you. You may get a sinus infection, I could develop pneumonia. Virus's usually go away without treatment (other than creature comforts) but, viruses can turn into bacterial infections. There's no way of telling what each person's body will do with a specific virus. Secretions lodged in sinus cavities, that don't drain properly can heap together and then cause a bacterial infection that need antibiotics. A good example: Our family of 5 went to the zoo, carried sack lunches, 2 sodas. We all drank from the 2 sodas (on a budget). The next day one of my kids was very sick, high fever, sore throat. He had strep throat, tested by a culture. One of my other kids got a 'cold' and no one else even got strep. ( supposedly a very contagious infection!) So, every one's body responds to infection differently!
Green mucous doesn't always mean bacterial infection-when in doubt, call your doc.

If the mucus is green, then you are beyond the common cold. This is a serious infection. The severity of the infection can be gauged by the color of the mucus. Clear mucus is not that big of a deal, but if not dealt with appropriately, it can and will turn yellow. Yellow mucus is a sure sign of an infection starting. Then with a more severe infection, the mucus will be green. After this, if not treated, the mucus may become brown or blood tinged. Major problem if it becomes this color.
Have you gone to the doctor? You probably should at this point. He or she will most likely prescribe an antibiotic.
Meanwhile, drink plenty of fluids and take some Robitussin and/or some cold medicine. Theraflu severe cold is great and it works. Alka Seltzer severe cold is a good one to use also.
Hope you feel better.

That sounds like bacterial infection. You should both see the doctor.
