Every time there's a knock on my door, my dog runs into the corner of the room. He's a boxer.

My Sam will let me know that there is someone at the door. Sometimes I don't hear the door because he is barking. He let me know recently that some one ( my son ) was trying to get in the back door. It's nice having a built in alarm. He is learning to sit down and be quiet and wait until I say he can greet.

I have no idea why they think that it's for them but it cracks me up. Mine runs to the door even when it's a knock from something on the television.

I don't really know if they actually think its for them. Its more or less I'm protecting my castle, den, home, masters. Ohh something just disturbed the piece and quiet of my home. I must bark to scare it away. Then when who ever comes in, I, Wonder if they associate the noise with the person. Or if they are just SO excited that they forget about the noise and possible threat. LOL.. Good question. I have a dog who thinks every one at the door is bringing HER something... FOR ME??

In any given situation, focus on what you do want your dog to do instead of on whatever he’s doing wrong. Learn how to train your dog https://tr.im/zLXs2
For example, suppose that on many evenings, your young dog gets busy looking for trouble just as you’re digesting your dinner. He grabs a boot from the mat by the front door and gallops through the house with it. You yell at him and take it away. He grabs its mate. You yell and take it away. He heads for the kitchen and starts checking out the counters in case something tasty’s been left behind. You chase him away. And on and on, until you’ve lost your temper and torn out clumps of hair you can ill afford to lose.

Because they think that THEY are the pack leader. You can train them not to rush the door and bark at it.

accually they are just telling you there is somebody at the door. My dog does the same thing and the last time the door bell rang it was an assulter at the door and my 4 month old puppy attacked him and almost ripped his hand off. ^v^
them telling you is very helpful!

It's all part or being a pack animal, they are alerted to the presence of someone outside the pack and are alert and protective of you, that's why they rush to the door, bark etc....

Because they know that the visitors like them more than the people in the house.
