My family and I are thinking of taking the Costa Magica to the Western Carribean 2/25 (7 nights). We are in our early 40's and have 2 kids-ages 9 and 12. This would be our first time cruising with this line. Wanted feedback on the quality of this cruise line and the activities for people in our age group. Thanks!

I feel that Costa is often an overlooked cruise line by many, including myself in many cases. It is especially overlooked for families, but it really is a great line for families.

The Magica even has an area for the whole family to do things, a nice touch. Costa also allows the parents to go along with their kids on shore excursions.

The only thing I was not especially impressed with on the ship was the food. But, it was still good, and there are very few lines that actually really impress me with food, I can be picky.

I think that this would be a great choice for you, it is a very nice ship and a great experience. I think it would also be good for your kids, I think the whole family would find plenty to do.

I've included a link to a review on the ship, you will find a lot of info here. Just remember, the reviews are personal opinions, so don't take them too seriously.

My personal opinion is the cruise is nice but the food and entertainment and everything could be better and is not like other cruise lines. The food is more Italian like real Italian and the crew members are really nice and everything and the ship is colorful and clean but its just not as wonderful as some of the other cruise lines. Anyhow, the rooms are really nice, and their is a waterslide for the kids and the pool area, and their are arcades and everything but their is always something to do. Its a nice cruise but their are better. Their are the kid groups that the kids can participate in but the entertainment is nice but other ships have had better and then food isnt what some other cruise lines offer. Overall is about a 3 out of 5 stars.

We went on the Costa Mediterranea last spring, it was our first cruise & we loved it. Our 2 & 4 year old grandchildren went along. The staff included them in so many things. They had them on stage with them, singing songs, in contests. The Squak Club had many fun things for the 4 year old & he enjoyed it. The waterslide was one of their favorites, they loved it! They went one evening dancing, playing & making sundaes while we went to a show. They do have babysitting available in the evenings which we were told are the regular staff so we opted not to try that. Your kids are older & they have so much more for the older kids...we were in the "toddler" age!!! They have all kinds of activities for that age group. Call Costa & inquire, the customer service phone people are very nice to talk to. They will answer all your questions. It is a VERY clean ship, I tried finding fingerprints on the mirrored elevators the entire cruise & not once did I ever see one. All the staff were adorable, so friendly & couldn't do more for us. Our room stewert Christian was too sweet & went out of his way to treat us so special. The food was good, nothing to knock my socks off but we never were hungry. Don't book excursions thru the ship though, they are very expensive. Once your on the dock, you will find all the excursions being offered thru local people. We did this at all the ports & had a great time MUCH cheaper & saved alot of money this way. Talked to several people once onboard & they that had booked thru the ship & they didn't do half as much as we did & they send ALOT more. We booked our cruise directly thru Costa ourselves & they upgraded our cabin a few days before the cruise so we were shacked to find a large cabin. All in all I find Costa to be a great cruise line & my husband & I will definetly cruise with them again. Have a great cruise & relax & enjoy!!!

I have not really heard a lot about this ship or line, although it is in the same family as Carnival so it can't be too bad. If you have cruised on Carnival or Princess before, you can get a past passenger discount on Costa. For specific reviews on this ship as well as others, check out cruisecritic.com. They have member reviews of each ship as well as forums to ask questions and meet people who will be cruising with you. It's a very informative site that I have used in the past to help me with my bookings.

I went on Costa one time in the Caribbean and I was about the only one speaking English, Many passengers were Italian and the crew gave all directions in Italian and then English, Pick another, I would say.
