I think you are talking about an Intravenous pylogram. This is a special type of x ray where they inject dye and watch it flow thru your kidneys. It can determine some types of kidney problems that may need treatment or damage from a kidney infection.
Most of the results are ok and need no other treatment.

What you are referring to is an intravenous pyelogram, or IVP. This is a series of x-rays that are taken of the kidneys, their drainage system, and the bladder. It is used to detect problems with the kidneys, ureters, and bladder. It can locate any blockages and lets your doctor know how your kidneys are functioning. You can read more about it here
