start with about 2500 a day. Sounds like a lot...but your body, without the exercise, burns about 3000 a day naturally. Break this up over 3 meals you are looking at just over 800 calories a meal...this should help you, but do not get caught up in numbers..a reasonable diet free of excess fat and sugar should do the trick as well.

Most replies are right about losing to much weight at one time, but if you try this cardio work out, it will help much faster than just jogging or walking. and don't starve your self. first cut back on calories.10 cals per pound. if a person weighs 200 lbs they halve to eat 2000 Cal's just to maintain. anything more you will gain, anything less you will loss. OK now, think of your body as a car on the highway on Cruise control. It uses less gas right. that is because your not working the engine as hard as you would in the city stopping and going Right. this works the same as your heart. it's a 20 min routine. start out with a fast pace walk for the first 5 Min's to get you heart going. when the clock hits 5:45 go into a full sprint for 15 secs then go back to the fast walk when the clock hits 6:00. do this over and over again until the 15th Minuit. use the last five Min's to cool down. by doing this, it causes your heart to work harder by making it adjust back and forth between walking and the running, thus burning more calories like the gas in the car in the city

To be healthy you need no less than 1200 calories a day. But, instead of counting calories why not just make a few changes in your diet? I did and lost 35 pounds. I did this by walking and drinking water, but also I switched to whole grains and I started buying boneless, skinless chicken breast and grilling them. If you don't have a George Foreman or another type of grill, you could also broil the chicken. I started using Pam spray instead of oil or butter. I am not doing Akins, but I became aware of how many carbs I was eating. I still eat carbs as they are necessariy, but make healthier choses. Fat is necessariy, but try using olive oil or a pure, non trans fat oil. Eat huge salads with everything in them...I allow myself to use regular ranch as I don't like low fat dressings. I went from eating sugar to buying sugar free cookies and ice-cream...I don't feel deprived now. You will be amazed at how much you can lose just by making a few changes. I am not dieting, I am just eating differently now. If I really want something I have it. I just don't eat seconds and thirds. If I am very hungry, then I allow myself seconds. If not, then I don't. Good Luck!

Less than what you are eating now. Start a food diary and keep track of what you eat on a common day. Start eating fruits & veggies as snacks. Pick up the 100 calorie packs and eat 1 for a snack as well.
Good Luck!

It really depends on the person, how much exercising you do and your current diet.
One of my best friends, who's a nurse, once said to me that you shouldn't count calories, just make your calories count. Eat nutritious, wholesome food, eat smaller portions, and cut out the junk. Exercise, of course, also helps considerably. Once you feel comfortable, you may want to increase your daily level of exercise. Try running, going to the gym, or find a fun fitness hobby - belly dancing, martial arts, rowing, swimming or hiking.

For a woman it is 1500 per day, for a man it is 2000. Keep up the walkin g and the water - you will see results. sometimes the results aren't as quick as we'd like them to be and because we look at ourselves everyday sometimes you can't see the weight loss yourself but others can....KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! I'm proud of you for taking the initiative.

You simply need to burn more calories than you take in. Eat healthier meals (i.e. vegetables, lean meats, not fried), and keep excorsizing. Losing weight isn't easy, but once you start to see results, you will be excited and more motivated. Good luck.
