The better question is why do either one of you have to hit the other?
While I don't believe that men should hit women because they're usually bigger and stronger, I also feel it's just as wrong for women to use the "weaker sex" excuse to put their hands on men. If she's your girlfriend and you two can't get along, call it quits and stay away from each other.
If she's just someone you know and you can't get along, again, avoid each other. If you're out in public and this individual just comes up to you and starts pounding on you call the police. In an extreme case get a restraining order.
We're people not animals. We should be able to settle our differences civil and non-violently. When that's not possible there are authorities that can step in and help straighten things out. Men AND women should never use their hands to try to solve problems.

It is not wrong at all, no matter who you are you are allowed to defend yourself no matter who they are. I DO know that losers out there will stand there and say 'you hit a girl?!!' even if all you did want give her a light slap, when she was going balisitc scratching etc. its NOT right at all. If you dont want to be accused of this social bull crap 'dont hit girls in self defense' then just try to restrain her. Otherwise, I would also report and woman who did that, its illegal and wrong, and no one should get away with violane based on gender. Sorry you had to deal with that. Some women are huge and scary, some women are short and all they have is a temper like a hurricane- and they spit, bite, scratch, punch and kick. They have no right to do that.

defence is OK so is deflecting a hit towards you, but you should NEVER hit a woman EVER it's just not right mate, I could never hit a woman ever. I remember a fight I had with an ex it got heated very quick and I look at my self pointing with an open hand at her, when I saw that I just walked out for 2 days, because I was pissed at my self for letting her get to me like that.
As I was lowering my self to scum, only scum hit a woman, not saying they can look after them self but it's just not right.

Men are, more often than not, stronger than women. You can defend yourself from a girl without hitting her. Once you get her off you leave so she can't hit you anymore. However, if you can't get her off you then I'm a firm believer that you can defend yourself without hurting her too badly. Then call the police and have her taken for domestic violence.

i dont think a man should ever hit a woman...that shows a lack of respect to women and it shows weakness because you couldnt defend yourself any other way. a real man would never hit a woman
