From what I understand, you can still use his crib mattress instead of buying a new one.

As its come from a childs bed i'd defiately get a new mattress even if you do know where it came from. Young children often wet the bed and although sheets etc. can be changed the only thing you can do with a mattress is leave it to dry theres no way of getting one completely clean!

Just get a new mattress--it sounds like that is what you truly want to do--you just want someone to confirm your own desire. If you don't have the cash, don't feel bad about your child sleeping on a second-hand mattress, if it has been cleaned--no shame there. Who says you have to tell anyone?

Put your mind at rest and buy a new mattress.
For the cost of a new mattress its well worth it.
Or if the one from the cot fits use that one.

You can use a new crib mattress with those beds. Go to toys r us or babies r us or another place to purchase one. Pretty cheap nowadays. Works great and easy to clean.

I assume that your child is changing beds "from a crib", if so you can use that same crib mattress.

I'd get a new one if you don't already have one that fits the bed. It sounds like you're not too happy about using the one that came with it.
