It is not so much the type of cat you get but when you get them. Any cat can be trained to co-exist with other animals, even fish or mice if you start at an early age. Eight weeks is usually the youngest you can get a cat, so start then. The hamster ball is a good starting point, this allows the cat and small pet to be in the same place at the same time with no harm done. They can smell each other, and should the cat have the instinct to smack, the small animal will be protected. The key is interacting them with each other from the beginining and on a regular basis.

There is no such thing as "the perfect cat' I had a scottish fold cost $400 and other than that I have always had pound cats. In my experience, the perfect cat comes from environment. Cats respond to people in the way they are treaated. I have always hadcats that were loving, cuddly, affectionate and come when they are called. In my experience I have only had 1 "bad cat" and that poor cat was a "feral cat" (born in a pack of stray cats.) she was never able to be tamed to the house. but that ws also part of her environment having beeen a wild cat prior to coming to my home.

A perfect cat is like asking for a perfect teenager. I personally wouldn't trust my cat or any cat I know with things that have been their food since they existed.
