Personally I don't really care but I'm interested in hearing the debate.

Hi 6000,

Not much of a debate actually. Anyone who maintains that Mormon's are not Christians, either does not know much about the faith (i.e. spouts learned ideas that are false rather than investigating the truth for themselves) or disqualifies our faith as Christian for not believing there particular brand of the definition of the Godhead. Of course they would disqualify other Christian faiths on the same basis.

I am LDS, I am Christian, as such I try to follow the teachings of Christ to the best of my ability given my own imperfections. I do not be little others of faith for their differing beliefs and while I have difficulty understanding the moral compus of those who lack faith, I sometime feel more comfortable having discussions with them than with those who claim to be of faith but are so closed minded as to even consider that there is more to learn concerning the will of God and our purpose here.

And truth be told, I do actually think you might care, just a little bit.

Love ya.

Ah, the question of the ages...
Depends on how you define a "chrisitan"...we claim to be Chrisitan because we follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Typical Christians I have noticed do not accept us as Christian because we do not believe Jesus Christ and God the Father are the same being/person and a slew of other things we don't believe in. Well, then I am not that "type" of Christian nor would I want to be that "type"...because of what they believe. Just as that Christian would not be a Mormon.
So, basically, it just all comes down to your definition of what a "Christian" is. I wouldn't think a "christian" is one who would put down others for their beliefs, tell a person they are going to hell, fight against a certain religion just because they didn't believe in it or spread false gossip and information about a certain religion...yet it seems to be those lovely Christians are the ones doing the vast majority of all that..
Oh well.
I feel I am a Christian because I believe in and follow (or at least try my best to follow) the teachings of our Savior.

Yes, they are. They accept Jesus as the son of God. So, they are Christians. They also have the Bible as part of their religion. They also have the Book of Mormon.

Note to the person who said that Mormon's added to the Bible which according to the Book of Revelation is wrong. That is an incorrect interpretation. Here's the passage from Revelation: "18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book." So, the adding and taking away refers to "this book of prophecy" - the Book of Revelation. It's not referring to the Bible as a whole.

Moreover, it CAN'T be referring to the Bible as a whole, because the Bible had not been assembled when the Book of Revelation was written. The Book of Revelation was written in the 1st century AD when all the books of the New Testament were simply separate scrolls, some used by some churches and others used by other churches. The Bible itself was not assembled in the Catholic form until the 4th Century AD.

Interestingly, if your interpretation was correct -- then the Protestants such as Martin Luther "took away from the words" of the Bible when they eliminated 5 books from the Bible in the middle ages. That resulted in the Catholic Bible and the Protestant Bible beinig different (the Catholics still have the Deuterocanonicals) and the Protestants took those out saying that they should not have been in the Bible in the first place.

Interesting stuff ay?

The debate, you'll quickly notice, all comes down to how a person defines Christianity.

If they define a Christian religion as one that believed Jesus is the son of God, or savior, and redeemer and His atonement is central to our salvation - then yes, they will see members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as Christian.

If they define it by some creed, or their specific interpretations of Bible verses, then they might say no.

Either way, just always ask for the definition - I'll think you'll find it very interesting.

The only people who have any business answering this question are Mormons. How presumptuous for some of these answerers to try to dictate what Mormons are or aren't, or what they believe or don't believe. What unmitigated arrogance!

If that's what being a "Christian" is, I'll have no part of it. If, on the other hand, being a "Christian" means worshipping and emulating Jesus Christ, and accepting Him as one's personal savior, then I (and all Mormons) definitely ARE Christians.

No they aren't. Mormon's have added onto the Bible, which; according to the Book of Revelations, is wrong in itself. They have put there prophet and founder Joseph Smith on an equal level as Jesus the Christ. Jesus is God in the flesh. To follow a man and to say they follow Jesus (who has ascended to Heaven) proves they are not disciples of Christ.

It depends on how you define a Christian. Basically, a person must be born-again (John 3). There are probably quite a few Mormons in this category, just as there are probably quite a few true Christians in the average Christian church.

They are a branch of the religion known as Christianity. They believe that Jesus is the Messiah. Thus in a broad sense, Yes they are Christians.

They, however, follow a false book, and give more credence to the the Mormon Bible then the Holy Bible. (Christian Bible). Therefore, they are not Bible based Christians.

No need for a debate. A Christian is one who places their faith in Christ and acknowledges what He did on the cross. So Mormons are not Christians

It is not a religious denomination that makes one a quote 'christian'; it is the relationship they have with their creator in the name of Jesus the Christ. There are children of God in all churches. The wheat and tares will remain together till the day Christ himself comes and divides true believers from the imposters.
