Hi
I had to get new battery and now radio doesnt work. Rang the dealer and got the code but it doesnt work!!!
They were not too helpful..said that was the code they had and that was that. If i discnnect the battery again and trycode again would it work or should i cut my losses and buy a new one?

The code might have been changed at some point it happens alot for reasons unnone, try disconnecting the battery again and have another go if that doesn't work most radio shops recode radios it cost between £10 and £20

You most likely got boguss information from the dealer. The codes on factory radios are accessable only with the vehicle VIN# or the serial # (serial # prefered) off of the radio. If they did not ask for either of these they were just trying to get you off of the phone. I would drive to the dealer, ask for the service manager and explain what happened. They should be able to get you the right code...that's their job. You may have to pull the radio to get the serial # or pay them to do it if you can't get it out yourself.

FYI...I have never heard of a dealer giving this information via phone. That would defeat the purpose of the security code and anyone could steal those radios and resell them.

double check you are using the correct procedure for entering the code, otherwise could be wrong code, unit has been changed at some point. if it just a basic radio + tape/cd it wont cost fortune to replace with an after market radio

most likely someone who had the car before you changed the code. its a pretty big hassle to get it, so if youre not in a really tight financial bind, nows a good time to upgrade to an aftermarket radio. and i still dont see why theres codes for factory radios... what thief is going to steal a stock radio?

If its not the code and is 100% dead then there is a 3 or 5 amp inline fuse behind the stereo itself which will need swapping - however you will need to get the stero out to change it.

Double check you are entering the code correctly...

On all renaults, this is done using the steering wheel stalk and not the radio itself..

as can be seen here

What car is it. You often have to do something to allow you to put the code in i e Vauxhall you have to switch ignition on and switch radio on while pressing AS button

if you tryed putting in codes before the right one you would of locked it, you only get a few attempts at this, you can get the stereo unlocked for a tenner at Trents or most car stereo shops.. then again stereos these days are pretty cheap now. goodluck.

Sometimes it can be the way the amps are hooked up that could be draining your batt. you should take your car to best buy or any other car radio specialist.

make sure that your amps switches off automatically and if thats not the problem, try listening to your speakers when everything is turned off and if you hear a blowing sound then the problem is the radio manufacturer. return it!
