I work full time at the moment but im more than half way through my pregnancy and leaving soon to bring up my baby and be a stay at home mum. My boyfriend works full time but doesnt get paid very well so we will struggle to pay rent and bills. What am i actually entitled to and for those that claim those benefits how much do you get? I am planning on going back to work once my child is at least a year old but i want to be there for his first year, so not planning on living off benefits all my life before you give me criticism. Thanks for any replies xXx

You can stay with your employer, as maternity is usually 6 months at least and you can apply for an extension to a year aswell. This way you get full pay for a while and then normally the statatroury maternity pay, which will help contribute to the bills n stuff.

you will get child benefit. which is something like £17.45 per week ( forgive me if I'm wrong i forget what you get for the oldest child!! )
but you will also be able to claim child tax credit and working tax credit depending how much your partner earns.
if you are intitled to the child tax/working tax the you can also apply for council tax and housing benefit, you may only get a small amount of help towards these but every little counts once the baby arrives.
good luck with the baby

Didn't your midwife give you that book about pregnancy? Read the back of that, go to the job centre or phone up your local tax office and ask about family tax credits. As you are a first time mum go to all Ante natal classes and ask all your questions and you will find girls in the same quandary as you and get sorted together.

Try looking at moneysavingexpert.com as they have a link to a web page that works out what you be entitled to approximately.
They are also absolutely brilliant as regards money saving tips and how to budget etc-so if you're looking at reduced income it won't be so scary with a plan!
Good luck.
