Water damage IS not only a possibility, but a probability. Take the remote out of your husbands hand and replace it with a tube of caulk. Caulk is not that difficult to remove if he wants to replace the tub at a later date.
Apply a bead of caulk. Wet your finger, and draw it across the bead to smooth it. Remove the excess from your finger frequently, wet, and repeat until you have a nice smooth caulk joint between the tub and the wall.

I presume you are talking about caulking where the bottom of the tub meets the floor tile. This is only important when water is splashed on the floor. If that doesn't happen in your home, then you can get by without the caulk. I'd caulk it, though.
If you are referring to caulking where the wall tile meets the edge of the tub, then that is more important. Water will often get in there, so you really need to caulk it.

Have the cable TV service shut off first of all...if that doesn't make him get off his duff to do the work, go get some tub and tile caulk, a caulk gun, a roll of masking tape and lots of surgical gloves and rags. First tape off an even line where you are going to caulk, (wall and tub) after squeezing the caulk into the masked off area, with your gloved hand, take a finger and smooth the caulk to a nice flat finish. Then wipe the excess on your rags. It doesn't take long and the results look professional!

Go buy a tube of silicone bath caulk and do it yourself. If water is leaking around the tub, it's going to create more problems and cost more money when you do finally replace it.

OMG do it yourself, it's easy. I replace mine around the sink and tub all of the time to protect our investment. Hubby does the hard stuff, I caulk. I can't believe you would wait a year and then try to blame him. It's even called bathtub caulk, or ask someone. follow directions on the tube. Good luck.

Your husband is procrastinating, get atube of caulking and a caulking gun, cut the tip ( about .25 inches) off in a slant . It easy , as you are caulking, smooth it off by ducking your finger in water, rubit over the caulking, it will leave a smooth layer of caulking.

Go ahead and caulk, get a wet rag when apply it. once you have caulked it and it looks a little rough, just smooth it out to your liking wiping your finger on the rag. wipe up any excess with the rag, just remember to finish all your corrections while the caulk is plyable

Definitly get some caulk and do it. Water can get under there and start to mold or rot. It's quick and easy and one tube should do the trick.
