It's the hardest thing in the world to go up to a guy that you like and start talking to him. Trust me. What you need to do is think of some way of introducing yourself and think of something to say before you start talking to him. Remember, the first inpression is the most important one, and you want to try to make him like you as much as you can.

For the best results, pull him to the side, and let him know. Make sure to look straight into his eyes though, so he'll know that your not just feeding him lines or something. I know your shy, but if you think he is worth enough to go after, your just going to have to chalk it up, grow some heart, take a chance. The worst thing that could happen is that he doesn't feel the same way, but at least you gave it your best, and you can always be proud of that, And the best that could happen, he feels the same way. What grade are you in now?
Try asking him a question or two about things he's familiar with. If he's a car guy, ask him something about his or your car. If he has a hobby (especially one you wouldn't mind doing) ask him about it and how to get involved.
Once the conversation starts rolling along, ask him if you can talk about it over coffee or something.
The important thing is to establish a dialog and then see how it goes.

well you should just tell him in a note or something. i like a guy and have liked him since the 7th grade and he likes me only as a friend and I found that out the hard way. just see if he likes you with little things like a subtle hint. I hope it works out like mine didn't.

stop being shy and go up to talk to him... try going out in a group where u feel comfertable and he is comfertable too plus it would be fun then when u guys warm up to each other go out alone

Open your mouth and let him know, my mom always told me to let people know what's on your mind u/they could pass and u still have things on your mind that way at least they knew what was on your mind.
