Im trying to lose weight and I thought I could use this to my benefit. I would like to try and get most of it in the morning that way I can take advantage of the absorption thing throughout the day. Unfortunately the only thing I'v e found that I like is fiber one cereal which I would need 2.5 servings in order to get it all. With the 2.5 servings (including milk) comes 127 grams of carbs and 535 calories. Since I'm on a diet, that's nearly 2/3 of my carbs and 1/3 of my calorie allowance for the day and I like to eat things other than fiberone!! Does anyone know anything I can eat that has equal or more fiber for less calories and carbs? I know getting fiber through food is best, but if I was to use a fiber supplement would that count as the same type of fiber? I tried researching fiber supplements but I couldn't find any comparisons.

I don't know about the fat absorption, but you could take metamucil, beneful or a different fiber laxative to get the fiber you are looking for... That might also help with weight loss just because that much fiber is pretty much going to keep you in the sandbox all day anyway... ;-)

The best way to lose weight is to eat as much as you would like in the morning. It actually doesn't really matter what you eat in the morning. Have a moderate lunch and skip supper. When you eat supper the food stays in your gut and gets packed away as fat since you aren't burning it. Another method which works well is to eat 5 small meals during the day and leave 4 hours of no food before you go to sleep. This way you aren't hungry through the day, and just having food in your digestive system especially if it isn't alot will boost your Metabolism by 10%. The key to losing weight is not the carb counting and special diets its finding something that is fairly easy to stick with that will do you some good. For instance try eating a decent breakfast. You said you like Fiber one cereal, so eat that and have some sliced up bananas on there and some grape or orange juice. Maybe some whole wheat toast. The toast and cereal are high in fiber, and the other things have complex carbs which will burn readily through the day. One and one half to two hours later have a granola bar sweetened with honey or cane sugar. Then for lunch have a salad along with whatever else you like. One and one half to two hours later have a slim fast bar(they are like having a multivitamin in a decent tasting candy type bar.) This provides protein. And around four pm have a light dinner, such as a banana shake or smoothie, friut or something else which will not stay in your digestive track long. If you do this you can expect to see 1-2 lbs come off a week and not feel hungry. It takes your body 30 min to realize there is food in your stomach, and then you feel full. If you can have something in your stomach before you feel hungry you will eat less and not feel hungry. Plus it will boost your metabolism by 10% to just digest the food.

I've heard that too... it has something to do with the fact that foods that have fiber in them take longer to release the sugars and complex carbohydrates that come with it. Not sure about the 80% absorbtion thing, but it does prevent a spike in your blood sugar levels.

I get between 25 and 40g per day in my diet... plenty of fruits and vegetables. Tons of them, at least 5 servings of each. Another quick fix for me is a Thomas Light English muffin (100 calories, 8g of fiber) that I toast and add a 1/4 cup of strawberries, pureed to the top. I love that as a snack, or with my morning oatmeal (120 calories, 6g of fiber).

How about beans? Not only are they a source of fiber, but they are high in protein, too. Won't put so much of a dent in your carb intake that way.
