I've used the Rid treatment on my daughter four time now...she still has lice, and now so does my other daughter. I was told to put mayonnaise in their hair and cover with a shower cap for an hour. Does anyone know if this actually works?

You also have to "treat" your home to get rid of lice. All bedding needs to be cleaned, your furniture, anything that lice may cling to. For the big items (beds, sofas, etc.) spray them with Lysol, wait about 20 minutes then vacuum. Repeat this as many times as you want. Bedding must be washed, pillows included. If you live in an area where outside temps are below freezing, put blankets and pillows in garbage bags and put them outside for 24 hours. Or put everything through a very hot dryer.

My son had lice and I spent about three days just cleaning the home.

Even if you think you got all the critters, a couple more treatments never hurt. Remember, there is a 7-10 period between egg to mature lice.

Good Luck.

Well I know growing up my brothers and I had lice alot, from getting re-infected from school. It's a horrible thing to go through. My mom done the RID for a while it works, just have to make sure you comb very thorough and make sure you disinfect everyone else's hair(more and likely ya'll have it also). You also need to buy some flea and lice spray and spray around the house, wash all linens in hot water and bleach. I also did the mayo in the hair over night. It's kinda gross but you lather it in hair, wrap in foil, then wrap in towel and leave over night. Not only did it get rid of the lice but my hair was silky and smooth! Haven't had lice since and that was about 9 years ago.

Hello, here is an entry made by a woman concerning head lice.

Pamela Williams (poohbear1385@prodigy.net) writes: "Use creamy peanut butter. Part hair in small sections and put peanut butter on the hair and comb back out with the small lice comb. This will take all the eggs out. This takes about 3 hours to do, but it works, my daughter came home from school with it and she has hair down to her waist and we just used the peanut butter and rinsed and shampood hair and that was the end of the lice."

Hope this helps
Good luck I hope you get the nasty little buggers out.

Make sure you are getting not only the scalp and top of hair but the ends too. I had to use the Rid treatment three times because my hair was really long and I wasn't getting the ends of my hair. When I finally figured out what I was doing wrong, it worked. Good luck! Ughhh, lice is awful!!!

Your best bet is to use tea tree oil on the scalp and cover with a shower cap for about an hour and then wash the hair with a tea tree oil based shampoo. Also be sure to throw away all combs and brushes and to wash all bedding in hot hot water with tea tree oil to help get rid of them. I would also consider permanently switching to a tea tree oil based shampoo since you kids seem to be getting exposed to lice. The tea tree oil shampoo will help that a lot.

Take her to the Dr. It sounds like she is getting re-infected. You need to find out where or who the lice are coming from and keep her away from it. Too many treatments are not good.

you need to find who she is in contact with that has head lice. they need to be treated. no matter how much you treat your daughters head if she is in contact with someone who has headlice and has not been treated she will keep getting infected.have a quiet word with her teacher she could advice all parents to have their childrens heads treated. that is if she is on school. you are doing everything right yourself. .good luck

NO, KEEP DOING THE RID TREATMENT AND CALL YOU PHARMACIST. HE WILL TELL YOU. I SUGGEST GETTING THE FINE TOOTH COMB AND SOME REALLY LONG MOVIES BECAUSE EVEN AFTER TREATMENT YOU GOT TO SCAN THE HAIR WITH A MEGA FINE TOOTHED COMB. I HAD TO DO 28 GIRLS HAIR IN THE HOSPITAL IN ONE DAY DUE TO SOME POOR GIRL GETTING IT IN BROOKLYN LEFT UNTREATED.
