I would say no, the noise is created when your brain converts the air disturbance (caused by the falling tree) that is moving your eardrums. The tape recorder captures the noise in much the same way (the microphone acting as the ear) but by my argument the noise wouldn't technically be made until you played back the recording to yourself.
You could debate this one until the cows come home. Think about the following. If you are wearing ear plugs (that are good enough to shield out any 'noise') but watching the tree fall down, does it still make a noise?

if a deaf squirrel was up the tree he would crap a hazel nut onto a mouse underneath when he felt the first movement, and the mouse could get out of the way before the tree hit him. At least the mouse could escape before the tree fell and made a noise..just in case there was nobody around to hear anything to shout a warning such as timber! Unlesss of course trees have ears..some people play music to plants to help them grow, so this could be a probability in the alternative sciences. Sorry I never heard your question. lol

It makes no noise - that's a human term - and if no humans are present, then it can't be measured.
- unless all the bugs and other animals that live in the forest around where the tree fell call a sound wave noise.

When you say no one are you assuming you mean humans? Animals can hear. Also as the person above says, just because nothing is around to hear it doesn't mean to say that it didn't make a noise, unless it fell silently.

cool, i have never heard that one before, never ever ever.
the answer is yes.
what to do is hide behind another tree while one is about to fall so that it does not know you are there and i would put money on that noise will be heard.
