There is a scam / trick for this.

Buy the cheapest upgrade version you can.

Do not to enter the product registration key first time around when installing with an upgrade CD.

(NOTE:- You can upgrade a pirate copy of XP using this method)

This will get the OS onto the system.

Then run the installation again

Then enter the product registration key and essentially the system thinks you are upgrading the Windows Vista installation with another Vista installation, and it's happy.

Bingo!

You need to be sure it's a legal copy. Go to http://www.buycheapsoftware.com. It's where I get all my legitimate Microsoft software, and it's usually cheaper than stores or others online. I am not affiliated with this site.

Start here: http://www.buycheapsoftware.com/ms_products~subcategory~147.asp

then, pick your edition.

Go for the OEM edition, you don't need the full retail version.
Also, be careful whether or you buy an upgrade or the full version. The upgrade will check the hard drive to ensure you have a previous Windows installed. Also, the full version will not install on top of a previous version. It will make you erase your current version.

oem vesions are much cheaper than upgrade or full versions, this is because o.e.m(original equipment manufacturer)are designed for system builders, but that can mean anyone who has even put a new hard drive in their p.c
go for at least vista premium to get all aero3d effects, you can get this version quite cheap from http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=527301
alternatively you could go to http://keznews.com/2278_Windows_Vista_Ultimate_download,and take a look at the avalible downloads there, however i am not sure on how genuine these are,but its worth a look
good luck

I am very sorry to hear that you are being duped into buying Vista through the Microsoft FUD campaign.
Enjoy the DRM.
I expect to see you back shortly after you install it bitching about all of the problems that you are having with it.
Cheers!

Try an OEM version. Something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16832116202).

It does however have limitations in terms of that it is tied to your motherboard. you can change all other system components and reinstall but not the motherboard.

Download Azureus, Bittorrent, or any other Torrent Client, then go to mininova.org and search windows vista. get a tech geek with a not-so-clear conscience to help you get it set up.

this is ILLEGAL. but its there if you want it.
