I've had my 2 y/o Golden Retriever for 6 months. He has always scratched and bit some as if he has allergies. The doctoir says whatever the allergy is, it is slight. Ten days ago I switched my dog from Science Diet to Solid God "Barking at the Moon"--an all natural food. My dog loves it. However, he has been sneezing since I switched foods. I'm not sure if the timing of the sneezing is coincidental or not. What do you think?

I have a golden retriever and let me tell you this is all normal. I feed science diet - never heard of the other. My dog sneezes when he gets up from laying, and chews on herself and scratches quite a bit. They are notorious for dry skin, and ear infections. You have to clean their ears very frequently with a mixture of vinegar and rubbing alcohol. My dog also has bad allergies in the summer months and she gets 2 benadryl twice a day. You should ask your doctor about this. If my dog does not have them she will chew the fur right off of her. Goldens are prone to allergies and ear infections, it is just the breed. I would not worry about the sneezing. You could try going back to science diet to see if it stops.

Try a new food and see what happens, if he is still the same put him back on the Science Diet and see if something else around the house causes the sneezes. My dog hates an sprays, ANYTHING that sprays he will start sneezing and rubbing his head in the carpet

Usually the allergy symptoms from food are either itching and scratching or it's internal; diarrhea, tummy ache, etc. I highly doubt it's from the food and is nothing more than a coincidence. There could be something in your house that's making him sneeze. My dogs go into sneezing fits occasionally, for no apparent reason to me.

I don't if it will help with the sneezing but I know my dog had skin allergies which got really bad in the summer. My vet is real open minded and and into being honest he said that the allergy meds that he could prescribe would be expensive but were essentially the same to and OTC benedryl so I could just buy that instead and give him one benedryl a day (what you find for yourself OTC). It really helped. Also, Dramamine works well if you have a dog that gets carsick.

Science Diet can aggravate allergies. It contains corn and chicken by-products which includes everything including the feathers and the cluck! Ask your vet, but he may have an air-born allergy that has nothing to do with his food. Kudos for not feeding Science Diet anymore though!

I don't think food makes you sneeze if you're allergic to it. It makes your throat scratchy and could make it close up and possibly cause a rash, but sneezing? I don't think so. Maybe there's just a lot of dust stirred up in the house.

Have him on that new diet for like a week, and if sneezing doesn't stop then try switching to another diet and see if he still sneezes. If he still does then its probably coencidental...
