LOL - guess what, it doesn't get any better as they get older! 8:30 sounds like a great bedtime for a 4 year old. Does he have a 'wind down' time before bed? Our 11 year old son begged us to let him stay up until 10, so we made a deal with him. As long as he gets ready for bed at 9 (this includes pajamas and teeth brushed) he can spend the hour doing something quietly. He looses the 10 p.m. bedtime privilege if he doesn't get up at 6:30 for school, or drags around when he gets up. So far it's worked - I think the 'wind-down' time allows him to fall asleep more quickly when he does go to bed, and he feels rested when he gets up.
Boys are a blessing, aren't they? Best wishes!

I had my 4 yr old in bed by 8:30, it seems like a good time. Now shes 16 and she still fights me on any kind of bed time. I think it just goes with the job description of being a kid.

He should be in bed by 7:30 and asleep by 8:00 (preferably). Aboviously getting up is an issue, so try adjusting 15 minutes back every couple of nights until you find the right time for him. Don't worry about anyone else and what they do, find out what works best for you and your son!

Sounds like he doesn't get quite enough sleep - try putting him to bed at 7:30 or 8:00. Once you get him on a schedule - do it 7 days a week or they will get confused about bedtime.
When my children were toddlers, I kept them on the same bed time no matter what day it was - even during vacations.

Send him to bed at 8:00 p.m. if his morning behavior does not change kick it back to 7:30 p.m. Kids need a lot of sleep!

My daughter is 5 and we start the bed time routine at 630 on school nights this gives her time to wind down and fall asleep by 730 at the latest. I think it varies for every kid but it sounds like your child needs more sleep my daughter is a kid that needs alot of sleep so I have to adjust my schedules so that she doesn't suffer it truly sucks having to be home every night by 630 but it is well worth it having a happy well rested child and I also work full time so she is at school from 745 to at least 445 thats a looong day for a little kid

about 7-7:30 on school nights. but amke sure before he hits the sack, he gets to see the news or something like that and have some sort of spiritual development like praying. And make sure he gets about 9 hrs of sleep.

the time isn't as important as the number of hours of sleep. However- morning light will wake them up, so not too late.
Every child is different, but a 4 year old will need 10-12 hours of sleep.
