He's 4 and you're saying "already"? LOL my son was doing that at his diaper changes pretty young. He's doing it b/c it feels good and it'sa covered body part that, since it's clothed, is fairly "new" to him. When they're young it's just something else to check out and as long as you make sure to tell him that it's a private activity, not dirty but private, then things should go smoothly.

By the way I love with a screen name like yours that your son doing this would "shock" you...

That is what boys do they are learning that it has feeling and that it feels good. Just as a baby when they first relize they have something down there grab it all the time (at least my 1 1/2 year old does LOL) it is something new. I have a 3 year old nephue that walks around grabbing is all the time not just in the tub. It is normal no worries.

Like the first answerer said....it's there, it sitcks out, you react to it, but mostly because it feels good.
He doesn't know anything about his or other peoples sexuality, to him, it's just another body part (it sicks out like a finger, or an ear), and it feels good when he touches it. It is not until parents put shame on this activity that it becomes bad. Then that, of course, confuses the child greatly. When you scorn him for being naturally aroused when he doesn't even know why he is, then there's a problem. There are other problems to shaming such behavior, but we won't go there.

Anyway, just let him know that such behavior is private and his parts are private. Like someone else on here said, it's never too early to teach safety.

Because he likes it. Since a very young age, the human being discovers the pleasure of sexuality, even though at an age like that it's impossible to realize.

Because a) it sticks out b) it feels good c) you react

Did you know the US government used to recommend rubber duckies to stop boys touching themselves? Of course people also believed masturbation causes insanity/blindness

Because this is the age when kids do that. Boys especially, and most do it constantly, not just in the tub.

This is a great time to teach him how thats a sensitive area and he can get sick from touching it (it can cause irriation and infection), and how thats for HIM to touch and NO ONE ELSE. He should know to tell you if someone ever tries to touch him there, its never too early to teach your children personal hygene and safety.

Curiosity. At his age it's a wonder to him that this thing from time to time has liquid sqirt out of it and probably feels funny to him. Kids do some weird things at this age.

He probably is curious at what it is? This is normal, my son does the same thing. There is nothing wrong with this behavior at this age, he is just getting to know his body.

It's very normal. Don't stress about it. Just tell him he doesn't need to play with it or just ignore it and distract him with something else.

It's normal.

It's his body, he can touch what he wants.

Stop calling it a unit.
