I think it's odd how so many people assume you eat a lot when you're overweight. Like you said some people have gland problems and diseases that cause them to gain weight. It's not so much that an overweight person eats a lot but it's really what they eat. I don't over eat but the foods that I do eat are not very healthy. That's most people's problems. But I guess the media has confused people into thinking that every overweight person eats a ton of food when that's not true. I really do think we have an obesity problem today because of the unlimited amount of junk food we have today. You don't see the same obesity rates 50+ years ago, and they didn't have every snack food imaginable available. Maybe if the media decided to show healthier foods people would try those instead of the junk foods.

Well for starters, if you truly had one of these conditions, it would be recognized by a phyisician in other ways, not just being overweight.
Your skin would be a certain color, your hair would show signs, your blood tests would reveal a disease, etc. etc.
being overweight is not just from over eating. It is from taking in more calories than you burn up. Bottom Line - Simply put.
For many people, it is too hard to try to be healthy, so they may claim a medical condition. The majority of these people are simply obese.

If you were to excercise, you have to believe that it can work for you, and go for it. Either that, or cut down your food intake as well as foods that are not good for you, such as hydrogenated oils. It is most everything you buy on a shelf, so it pays to read the labels before purchasing.

I honestly think that it is easier for so many Americans to complain than it is to actually take control and do something about it.
if you don't care enough about YOU, why would anyone else???

I understand what you mean, there are disease in which patients gain weight, but often times patients gain weight becasue they exercise too little. Even if you only eat 600 calories a day and never exercise you can maintain your weight, not lose weight.

You MUST get moving and I mean exercise everyday until you are sweaty and miserable. You have to do something to burn calories, build your muscles, and get your head in order.

If your doctor has performed tests that ruled out disease and disorders, like blood workups, physicals, etc., then I would assume you are free to get a second opinion.

Before a second opinion I would:

1. get involved in a regular exercise routine, do it DAILY
2. keep a journal of food intake
3. weigh yourself at the same time every day preferably first thing in the morning
4. eat foods low in fat, high in fiber and high in protein along with lots of water.

If after 8-12 weeks of this you have not lost an ounce then take your notes to your doctor and ask for her opinion. again.

Best of luck to you.

Its basically a stereotype. People all have stereotypes based on what they view to be the similar characteristics between certain types of people.

Some people think that all arabs are terrorists or all black people eat fried chicken or all chinese people are smart.

These are not true - but they develop over time because people perpetuate that stereotype. Overweight people are always pictured (in the media - and otherwise) as people who can't control their appetites.

Granted, there are ways to fight health conditions regardless of their cause BUT, the best way to fight stereotypes is to educate people about the truth and don't let it bother you. The world is a more interesting place when we have people of different shapes, sizes, colors, and characteristics. People who don't appreciate that are at a loss.

Starving yourself can cause your metabolism to slow down because your body is telling your brain that it is starving. Try to eat smaller meals more often during the day. Dr.'s are not always versed in weight gain. The basic concept is to keep your metabolism moving not slow it down. Try and increase your activity during the day to burn off the calories.

This assumption is based on a majority. Obesity has become an epidemic in our country. When over half the population is overweight, induced by overeating, then it is natural for the human to make this assumption about all overweight people. It is natural for the human to discriminate. I bet you the first human to get bit by a poisonous snake assumed all snakes were poisonous.

Because the vast overwhelming majority of overweight folks eat too much or dont get enough exercise, and most likely both. Then they just hope they have a thyroid problem or something like that to make themselves not have to take responsibility for the problem.

Most people assume that you eat alot if you are overweight becuase it takes consumption of calories to gain weight. If you did not take in more calories than your body used in a day, you most likely would not gain weight. Any unused energy that you have consumed is stored by the body as fat. So if you eat more than your body needs, you gain weight in fat.

Even if you have a tumor or gland problems, fat just doesn't appear out of no where, You body doesn't create fat from nothing. if you eat foods low in fat it doesn't matter if you have a glandular or metabolism problem. I mean fat is absorbed from the foods you eat.
