I have a 2007 Caliber. It has four doors and a hatchback. It has four cylinders but can get up and go like crazy. There is plenty of leg room up front and in back. The back seats are a 60/40 split and there is a shoulder belt for the center and both seats can recline to varying degrees for rear passenger comfort. It gets about 25 mpg on average. But, on my move to Texas a couple weeks ago, I got 34 on the highway. I had to take it from California to Texas through mountains and over flat lands and it handled like a dream. It has some blind spots though that I still haven't gotten used to.
Long story short.. Yes Dodge will and did make a small car. It's just not tiny. Five people can sit comfortably.
It even has a drink cooler in the glove compartment that works when the A/C is on.

Dodge has the Caliber. A 4 door hatchback with a 4 cylinder engine. It a bit bigger than the car it replaced, The Neon, but it is still considered "small".
Daimler Chrysler also owns the company that makes Smart brand cars. Very small, good gas milage, european econo styling.

They sure will. Considering that Daimler-Chrysler has taken a 7% sales drop from 06 to the 07 model year, and the fact that they are blaming it on the line-up relying so heavily on the Dodge Ram and all those behemoth cars they have out.........
Daimler-Chrysler is actually looking for a way to get rid of the Chrysler operation and possibly pawn it off on one of the japanese auto makers...
Plans are for laying off 13000 employees between now and 2008.
They'll be shutting down one of thier largest production plants as well.
I think they've realized the gas prices are causing popularity in small cars again.

dodge has so much potential to be a sportier company (like pontiac). instead they went on the path of larger vechicles durango, nitro, charger, 08' avenger, Ram (not a bad thing either).
they have many smaller car concepts, check out the dodge copperhead and dodge razor. (that demon is a nice looking car as well)
no confirmations though, dont count on something like the stealth coming back

While its currently only a concept, Dodge will debut the Dodge Demon Roadster Concept at Geneva next month.
It is similar to the size of the Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky.

Dodge is owned by the company that owns Merecedes and they make really small cars. I could see them borrow some of their small car designs, because people actually miss the neon.

Rumor has it that the deal with Chery will create a small car similar to the Mini Cooper. The name of the concept is the Hornet.

I hope it bares no resemblance to the lousy Neon on top or underneath. The PT Cruiser shares the same terrible under frame, simply awful!
