It'll stay there for life and it's hard to get rid of.

Am I the only one here thinking "DUH?"

The permanancy is the point of a tattoo. They hurt. On most inteligent people, they mean something. Why the hell do you think they'd want to make it go away?

People who don't 'get' tattoos think that everyone is going to regret them somewhere on down the line. To quote most people I know, "aren't you going to feel stupid when you're 80 and running around with tattoos?". I think there ARE certainly people who regret them, but the ones that do are the ones who just got one to be 'trendy' - the ones who just pick something out of the flash that they think it cute, or matches one of their friends'. I totally agree with you - I've often been tempted to just say 'duh' when people ask me if I know they're permanent.

Edited to add: I wouldn't WANT to work for someone who's that close-minded about body art. And I make plenty of money at my job - the job that doesn't care if anyone has piercings or tattoos.

The difference between people with tattoos and those without is that those with tattoos don’t care if you have tattoos or not.

I have only one tattoo but plan on getting more. I try and do a lot of research on designs before I get one. I want most, if not all of my tattoos to really mean something to me, or be a part of who I am. The tattoo I have now is in memory of my daughter that passed away before birth, so I know I'll NEVER regret it. It's harder to find a tattoo that I'll feel the same about.

I think some people see a design and they think it's pretty, etc and decide they want it on their body. Time passes by and what they're into changes, resulting in a tattoo they don't want anymore.

I don't think everyone who has a tattoo they regret are stupid. I think they just didn't realize how much they, themselves, would change over a period of time.

But then again, you'd think if you're getting ink permanately in your skin, you would want something that no matter what, you wouldn't mind " wearing" for life.

I think its just because a lot of people don't understand that even as you grow and change as a person, the tattoo will serve as a reminder for whatever reason you gave it. The tattoo is like keeping a pictorial journal and I think the idea of permanency might even scare some people. Everyone is different and has their logic for everything, but some people are just asinine

Many people get tattoos for emotional reasons, often when they have been drinking also. I think the people cautioning against getting a tattoo are cautioning against hasty decisions. There's a difference between a tiny tattoo in a discreet location, and a "flaming skull", or "I love Susan" on your arm.

Like it or not, people make decisions about you by the way you look. Potential employers, romantic interests, the cops, everyone looks at your tattoo and categorizes you in one way or another. It's your life, but you're not the center of the universe, and you are affected by other people's attitudes.

I have a tattoo that I got when I turned 18, I'm 22 now and don't regret it at all. I chose mine very carefully and it has a very special meaning to me. It's on a spot on my body that you don't see it unless I'm in a situation where it doesn't matter (i.e the beach).

A lot of people do get one and regret it, that's there fault for being stupid. Don't put something on your body unless you know it is something you will never get tired of seeing, like I did. I smile everytime I look at mine because it represents the most precious thing to me, that's why I chose it.

It doesn't hurt that bad. But the pain proved that it (should be) something you care enough about that you are willing to go through the pain to get it.

I told my parents the exact same thing when I was 16 and wanted a tattoo.. they told me to wait until I was 18 so I did. I am 23 now and I wish I never got my tattoo and I am not looking forward to the painful laser that will have to take it off..........

exactly what my mom said when i got mine ..lol! but truth is mine means something to me and even tho its been 8 years it still does. i have a small design i drew about a year ago for the back of my neck. its still taped to my computer monitor where ill see it everyday, and its still beautiful and meaningful. when i celebrate my 27th birthday this year it will be my gift to myself regardless of what it will look like with im 77! people who say things like that have either never had one or are really regretting that farout "disco rules" tattoo! haha!

Some people get tattoos that they regret.I really think about what I want before I get it.When you're old and saggy tats won't look good but I hope old saggy people aren't showing too much skin.

Think about all the 18 year old girls who run out and get a dopey butterfly on their back. My guess is, 20 years down the road, they will regret it.
