the question about marrying your stepbrother sparked this one. Had a friend who liked her cousin she met recently in that way. It was her father's half sister's grandson. and she met all of them for the first time at the age of 24. He's 21.

I told her it was freaky and gross. more opinions please

Okay, that is her HALF 2nd cousin. Completely legal and not gross because they did not grow up together.

Even in some states where even 2nd cousin marriage is illegal there are exceptions for HALF 2nd cousins that allows those marriages.

Okay, lets look at this one slowly.

Is it her biological aunt, or its the father's half sister without any blood relation to the father? Being that you said half sister and not step sister, we can assume they have one common parent. If the father and aunt are not related by blood, then it's biologically safe, odd in a social point of view but biologically safe.

If they are related by blood, well, it is a rather biologically safe. First cousin level of incest has an about 4-7% increase in risks of birth defects (I'm at work, I cant really search for incest online but I remember the numbers being that low). Second cousins would have a much lower risk of birth defect, maybe in the area of .5% above the average at the most.

In her case, its a "half" second cousin, bringing these risks to a normal level of possible birth defects. Genetically, it's acceptable. In-breeding is not that problematic if it happens once every few generations. Issues with in-breeding leading to major birth defects are due to people doing it more than once (IE Brother marries sister and his kids marry their cousins, who then have two kid who marry their cousins... at that point, yes major birth defects or genetic anomally will be more common).

Socially however, this issue is more touchy. Being that they just met, one can assume they were never really known as 2nd cousins. At this point, if they really wanna be together, they could just not publicise this fact.

Adam and Eve have been married and that they've been married via God Himself. we could face it, they themselves have been miracles. with the flexibility to populate the earth with they are offspring grew to become into no longer something. God allowed for this and knew this had to be. in accordance to the Bible, there have been individuals on earth in a while who have been little question created via God yet weren't as Adam and Eve. Why is it that folk attempt and place the creations of God or perhaps God Himself interior our puny little skills? God can do and make ensue what ever He chooses. he's God. The writer of the universe. guy knew in a while that incest is a sin. This grew to become into even proved via the royalty of the cases. with the intention to maintain the blood line royal, that they had incestual family members and without warning they found out the offspring bore very sickly, moronic little ones. Inbreeding would be an extremely risky genetic subject and it is been shown many cases.

Of course, one of the reasons that there is a taboo against close relatives having sex is that it might cause any children who result from the union to have birth defects. There is however, another reason. This taboo helps women and girls to have one place where they can be, with their families, where men and boys are not looking at them as possible sexual partners.
I think that your friend is confused by the feelings she has in meeting these people for the first time as an adult. I hope that she refrains from getting into a sexual relationship with him. It could taint all future contact with this part of her family.

Even though they are far removed and it actually may be fine- i dont think that is the wisest thing to do since you are all basically in the same family. There are plenty of eligible non-related guys out there for her to pick from, suggest she find them.

I dont think it is freaky, but it is definitely weird.

I believe in the US relations with first cousins are illegal (they are nearly as closely related as your siblings) but beyond that it's okay in the eyes of the law...I dated my half third cousin briefly, many years ago (our grandfathers were half brothers).

Your aunt's grandson would be your 2nd cousin but the "half sister" relationship makes it a bit more distant...nothing technically wrong with it...

Your Aunt's grandson is your 2nd cousin. A little too close biologically for me.

if you are married, sure why not. A bit dangerous. it is saver genetically to sleep with your 1st cousen than you r 2nd cousen. Say something goes wrong and you guys get pregnant, the child caould either be fisically or mentally deformed. Try non related people. Much less hassle

I guess you could, but I wouldn't have children. There are a lot of cultures where they intermarry, but the children come out with all types of defects.
