- They have been so quick to disown Ted Haggard and Kent Hovind. Now when you ask them about these people, they act like they never existed.
The other day a YA woman who claimed to be studying Creationism "for years" claimed she'd never heard of Kent Hovind and implied that I'd made him up just to discredit Creationism!

It's like me saying I'm an atheist, but I've never heard of Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris. Get real, people. At least Google the names and save yourself embarassment.

Brendan- you're asking us to be loyal to flawed and fallen human beings. That's not what we are taught to do. We are taught to put our trust in Jesus Christ alone. I think it would be a sin to loyally stand by a human being you know is preaching heresy just for the sake of loyalty.
And please don't pretend for one second that Kent Hovind is the only guy who made stuff up. (wiring an orangutan's jaw to a human skull, please). Since you're so fond of "Google" searches, try typing in "scientific frauds" and see how many hits you get. Most of the ten "icons" of evolution have been proven to be frauds or at the very least, poorly researched guesses that we teach as fact.
Humanity is flawed, fallen, and sinful. We all make mistakes and we all commit sin and mistakes. Don't pretend your end is any better. Only GOD is better.
Love ya!

I have never heard of Ted Haggard before the scandal. After learning about him, I see how he should have removed himself from leadership a long time ago, if he truly understood the qualifications of leadership in church and really believed that which he taught about.
As far as Kent Hovind. I have heard of him. I would still ask him a question about science if given the chance. As far as taxes... not so much. If the topic came about I would have to point out his obvious love of money since he clearly went against the teachings of the bible to obey authority so long as it doesn't go against the commandments of the bible. I think that paying taxes is one of those things that does not go against the commandments. Jesus said to give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.

You don't understand Christianity. Most conservative Christian groups have been pointing the finger at people like Ted Haggard (Benny Hinn, Jim Baker, Robert Tilton) for years. The Pentecostal/Charismatic churches are full of fraud, fakery, deception, and sexual misconduct. Most of us see them as cults.
Hovind is a much different story. He may be foolishly hard headed, but he is not a crook. He has made some serious mistakes. Not having an independent auditor advising his ministry is a big one. His whole problem evolves around interpretation of the law.
And, Hovind is not that well known either. His PhD is questionable because the school was not accredited, and it is in education and not science. Several of the best schools in this nation are not accredited, and his was not one of them. However, apparently he has mashed the right buttons. Evolutionist hate him, and none will debate him.
So, Christians are loyal. We see the whole Pentecostal-Charismatic evangelical movement as a fake. Those of us who are aware of Hovind think he may be somewhat of a nut case, but honest.
You are trying to lump all people who call themselves Christians as one group. We would be just as wrong to place you in the atheist-terrorist-communist group.

Because it's a hypocritical religion based on denial of human nature and the facts of life. So when one of The Herd actually manifests some sign of a libido, perverted though it may be from years of oppression, the rest "turn again and rend him" like the swine they are.
The common dodge is to say that "I don't follow Ted Haggard - I follow Christ." And, of course, "Christ" being 2,000 years dead, he's not as likely to make headlines for his embarassing behavior.
As for the "Creationism" debate, it's pretty simple. Any loser off the street with any or no brains can acquiesce in "God did it." Some of the more sophisticated idiots like to tote Behe's "Darwin's Black Box" around; but of course all Behe has done is to review some data, wonder at the complexity of the workings of life, and then make exactly the same leap to "God must've done this because I can't understand it." "Irreducible complexity" is just another argumentum ad ignoratium couched in tech-speak. Evolutionary biology, meanwhile, deals with hard, verifiable facts, course-corrects as necessary, and makes no claims to present a final solution to anything; it's a "working theory," which is all any scientific theory can ever be. And religious morons point and yell "Darwin is full of holes!" The bedrock fact is that people still believe in Creationism and "Intelligent Design" because "belief" requires no intelligence. "There is legitmate reasons that disprove evolutions." LOL...enough said!

Ted who? Kent who? It is not anyone's responsibility to owe a total stranger loyalty or to know someone by name. It doesn't matter if they are Christian, Jew, Muslim, or whatever. Also, who are "they" that are so quick to disown Ted and Kent? Did you talk to every Christian in the world and ask them if they all disowned these Ted and Kent characters?

I have heard of Kent Hovind, but until the news came out, I had never heard of Ted Haggard. It really doesn't matter much to me, since my loyalty is to Christ. He is the author and finisher of my faith, not some man like myself who is fallible and sinful. We all have problems with sin, so I pray for these individuals, and I don't ostracize them because of their failings, but they also have nothing to do with my relationship to the Father.

Loyalty to whom. The only loyalty should be shown to God. We gather to worship God not any other human. We acknowledge the work of Christians who spread, preach, teach and live the life unto the commandments of the Bible. Each person have their Awards Day coming at JUDGEMENT. We need to revere God, not man. We appreciate, and show an Agape love for God's sheep.

I have stuided Creationism before and I have been a Christian for a long time and have not heard of Kent Hovind.
Christians should not be disloyal. If a person shows a repentance then we should forgive them and welcome them back into the fold.
