There are two ways to become a dietitian.

1. Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD)

This program combines supervised practice (over 900 hours) and didactic coursework. At the end of an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics, students graduate with Bachelor's degrees in nutrition and are eligible to take the registration examination to become a Registered Dietitian. Most states require RDs to also be licensed dietitians (LD) in the state they practice in, which is where the "licensed" comes from.

2. Didactic Program in Dietietics (DPD) plus completion an accredited Dietetic Internship (DI)

In this path, students graduate with a Bachelor's degree in nutrition or related field. Then, students must complete a Dietetic Internship, which is sometimes combined with Master's coursework. After completion of the DI, the student is eligible to take the registration examination.

A dietitian, or sometimes called a registered dietitian (RD) is a majored program at selected colleges and university. You also have to get licensed ( that's the registered part), Before you can work. They usually work in a hospital setting dealing with the dietary needs of patients. Some even do private practice. The salary varies from state to state, but it is reasonable to assume it would start in the $40000 a year range....lower or higher depending on the area you work.
