Depends on your taste, what you like, what matches your skin colour. I would get a blue and purple butterfly on my lower back.

Getting a tattoo that you will love your whole lifetime and not regret takes a lot of thought.
Try browsing some tattoo websites and look at pictures.
Try to find a design that means something to you.
Pick a place that the tattoo 'fits', a place you think the design best suits.
I got my first tattoo on my wrist.
If you are unsure pick a place that can always be covered up.
Nice feminine places are the lower back, ankle, shoulder blades etc.
I got my first tattoo the day before my 17th birthday, so i was only 16. I thought a lot about what I wanted to get and made sure i was certain.
After that i have never looked back.
First of all make sure you find a really good tattoo artist, find out some information about them and if possible ask to see some work. Remember bad tattoo artists = bad tattoos.
If you do go ahead and get a tattoo make sure you tell the tattooist if you are unhappy with where they have placed the stencil before the begin tattooing. I made this mistake and now i have a wonkey tattoo!
Good luck to you, am sure you will end up with a very beautiful work of art.

If you're asking us as a deal breaker, then not only "no" but "hell no." A tattoo is yours, and if you want it, get it. Don't worry about what others think, but do worry about what you'll think later on. Take your time deciding every step of it. Get your base design, stay happy with that for a couple months *at least* then go find an artist you trust with a portfolio that looks good. Both fresh and healed tats is what you're looking for, because sometimes it'll look gorgeous the first day, but a month down the line it'll blow-out and become blurry or something else. Then work with the artist and your design, make it perfect for what you want, where you want it. Go back in a week or two and get yourself inked.

Only retards go in, pick a picture off the wall *flash* and get it inked as is. Yes, it'll be great having a tattoo that X amount of other people have, but.... wait, no it wouldn't.

I think that's a decision that only you can make. Ask yourself why you want it and get something that reflects YOUR personality. Make a decision and then sit on it a while and make sure you really want to do it -- it's permanant. Some people get temporary tattoos in the location where they want their real one just to test it out. If you're unsure, that might be a good idea. My best suggestion is to get your tattoo in an inconspicuous place so that it won't interfere when you're going on job interviews and such. I think some tattoos look very unprofessional, so just try to keep it low-key whatever it is.

My gut is that if you're asking total strangers on the Internet if you should get a tattoo that you're not totally sold on it yet. If you're not 100% positive you want one for the rest of your life, then don't make that decision right now.

Good luck!

Some of the answers in here are hilarious.

"Don't do it because you don't want your kids to get one"?! - That's great. I have two kids, one of which I take to and from school everyday. I didn't get my tattoos to hide them from anyone. If you're afraid about what "other people" will think, I can't imagine what your everyday life is like.

"Don't do it because it's permanent"?! - ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Come on people. I think it's pretty much common knowledge that tattoos are, in fact, permanent.

She didn't ask this question to get her mom's answer. I say if you want one, do a little research first and get something that means something to you, not just a little butterfly because it's cute. As to where you put it, that's your call. I got my first one on the back of my shoulder and it was the perfect spot.

Only get a tattoo if A. You know exactly what you want to put on your body. B. You are sure you want this symbol, design, word on your body for the rest of your life. and C. You have discussed it with your parents. If you are 18 and still live in their house, it's best to abide by their rules.

I told my mom I wanted a tattoo was 19 when I got it, and I'm glad I did it! But some peopel have bad experiences! Please do NOT but a winnie the pooh on your boob you will always regret it!

Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted a tattoo. Now I’m going to be 21 next week and I still haven’t gotten one. Reason is I’m the type of person that gets bored of things pretty fast so I know that if I get one I’ll regret it later on. It’s like you’re marked for life. In my opinion if you’re not even sure whether you should get it or not then you shouldn’t get one. Just because you’ll get it maybe in the spur of the moment and later regret it. What I do is every time I go to Six Flags I get one of those Hannah Tattoos that only last about two weeks. And I like it and it’s gone afterwards.

First, save up about $200-300. That way you can cover anything you want. A tat shouldn't be decided on how much you have to spend. You don't want a crappy $50 tat because you only had $50.

Second, go to a reputable studio. Don't go someplace that looks like you could get an infection just from sitting down in the place. Talk to the artist about sterilization procedures. It would be a shame to lose your first tat (and your arm) to an infection.

Then, talk to the artist about what type of design you're interested in. Work with the artist to come up with something that is unique to you.

Be sober and be ready for it to hurt. And above all, be ready for it to last forever.

You really need to think about this for yourself if you want one i would advice start small and somewhere u can hide it or show it IE lower back shoulder belly etc don't listen to all these idiots saying don t do it it is your body and you do what you want with it but all i will say is make sure you are happy with the design and position it is placed and don t worry about all the people saying about infections it is very rare that people do now if the tat is done in a clean place and properly looked after

i have 2 tattoos one on each arm i personally love them but everyone is different i think as your so young you should go for something small out of sight maybe your bottom or lower back to start with remember that fashions change and you don't want to be stuck with something on show that is old also some employers depending on the job you do or maybe in the future decide to do,do not like tattoos on show so you must seriously consider this before you go ahead

Your 18 and old enough to make your own decissions. If you are getting a tat you need to make sure it's something meaningful to you. Also do some research on where you want to have it done (tattoo shops). Watch Miami Ink on TLC. As far as where to put it thats your call. It depends on what you are getting and how big and all that.
