i dont understand why NASCAR and alot of the fans are making such a fuss about something that is part of what makes stock car racing so entertaining. when a team can find a way to use the gray areas of the rules to their advantage then its called being smart.
now at the same time a blatent infraction (such as illegal fuel additives) should call for stiff penalties. but if its a gray area then the fault stands with NASCAR and if they want to stop it then they should clean up the gray areas. what do you think?

I think you're right Nascar does need to clean up their "gray areas" but you have to look at infractions in nascar like they look at steroids in baseball and weightlifting and everything else. It is cheating and they are starting to crack down on it which is good because last year how many times did jimmy johnson get caught? quite a few but they didnt penalize him that bad and he went on to win the cup. I don't know whether or not they should have penalized Waltrip by 100 points because believe me I am no Waltrip fan but I believe he had nothing to do with it because he is such a Toyota pusher. Now maybe he did or maybe he didn't I guess there's no way of knowing for sure. All I know is they can't allow cheating just as they won't allow it in any other sport. Sorry but that's what I think.

The grey area isnt the issue.. The penalties handed out to Kahne, and Kenseth were just. They had a aerodynamic advantage and what was handed out might of been slightly more severe then last year.. It was the right call no doubt about it.

Now, Onto Mikey... There's an unwritten rule in NASCAR.. Kind of like the "grey areas" that you spoke of. What I'm talking about is that no NASCAR team ever try to get an advantage by altering Tires/Fuel/Motors... It's that simple.. The rest is the "grey area" unless otherwise mandated by NASCAR..

Mikey should of been suspended from atleast 1 race.. the 500. Whether he knew about it or not.. It's still cheating.. NASCAR was too lenient on MWR. Just shows that NASCAR hasnt yet grown enough balls to suspend a driver for one or more races, due to the Sponsors would have a freaking cow.. It's ridiculous.. NASCAR is getting too over-political

I think it has much to do with NASCAR trying to grow the sport. In order to do that that need bigger and more sponsors. The only way you will get new sponsors is if they think there is a level enough of a playing field that they have a fair chance to qualify and have their name shown on TV on Sunday (or Saturday night). They also want a fair chance to get to victory lane or at least grab enough points to get into the top 35. If these potential sponsors think that NASCAR is catering to the elite multi-car teams and turning a blind eye to "minor" infractions they are much less likely to give some new team millions of dollars. It's a new era that is driven by $$$ much more so than by a spirit of fair play. I don't think the fans are nearly as concerned about the "cheating" as Helton and France seem to be. Toyota coming in is making a big difference, and Mikey excluded, they are watching to make sure that the good old boys aren't getting any advantages that they used to enjoy at the newcomer's expense.

well, with the point system in place, winning is not everything. they let lots of things go by the wayside last year. but since they caught 4 teams all at once, they decided to crack down.
defenately the grey area need defined. Fuel additives have already been defined....
get bent waltrip!
at some point they must have some structure! they are trying to obtain some now...

Its not "ALL OF A SUDDEN" Nascar has been fighting cheaters from day one. Check your history.Ever hear of a guy named SMOKEY YUNICK ? He was a guy that made his living cheating. As far as I know , he was the only CHIEF MECHANIC (they didn't have engineers in those days) ever given a lifetime ban for cheating. That didn't stop Smokey--He just moved over to INDYCARS after his suspension.

that fuel additive can be the difference from winning or loosing, 2 mph at daytona is alot and if that is what he would have got he would have won the race, as for the hole in the wheel wells they were suppose to cover them and they did not, so they were told about that

I think that because its Toyota to begin with, plus it being something new that they have found. Something mixed in with fuel. They said that there are two taboos when it comes to cheating, tires and gas you don't mess with. I do have to wonder if NAPA had anything to do with it either? Hmmm. But they all have cheated. Just first race of the year and failed two inspections, plus its Waltrip pretty big name. If they make the fuss then the ratings are higher also.

I THINK NASCAR HAS RULED THIS SPORT WITH SO MANY RULES TO ITS NO FUN ANY MORE. I LIKE THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF RACING WHEN ANYTHING WENT AND THE BEST CAR WON AND THERE WAS NO GRAY AREAS IN RULES.

I completely agree, bring back "Old School Racing". I'm tired of all the rules. It should be about driving fast, and making your car the best it can be!
