It's a myth that they are poisonous (presumably derived from the stupid name). BTW they got that name because of what they look like, not because they are poisonous. They won't hurt you. They are the rudimentary lungs of the crab. They don't taste good. It's rather like eating wet feathers!

I was watching Rick Stein on TV the other day and he mentioned that contrary to popular belief, this part of the crab isn't poisonous at all, it just tastes revolting so you wouldn't want to eat it anyway!

You will be very ill and under extreme conditions they could kill you. Stay away and do not even touch them without washing straight after.
