I haven't gotten off the couch (besides coming in here because I had to look up a word on dictionary.com), I haven't eaten in two days, and I haven't done anything like walking around or seeing friends. I tell my mom to tell my friends who call that I'm asleep. And just last night, I thought about bashing my head into the mirror on the medicine cabinet or drinking nail polish remover. It is depression right? And if so, I don't want to tell my parents because they'll overeact and I'll end up taking happy pills and I don't want to. I just want to see if I'm depressed and I'll see what I can work out. Please give your opinion on what to do.

Maybe.....How long has it been this way?. If for a week or two, it is just sadness. If you do not come out of it soon.( about a month) check with a professorial. We all have mood swings and sadness comes in many levels. Just monitor it and see.

Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain which is a real medical condition and depression does always have a cause as such. The "Happy Pills" correct the chemical imbalance in the brain but they require trial and error but they are generally only prescribed if they are required and I am sure if you were a diabetic and required insulin injections for your health and happiness you would do so and this is the same. Depression can be treated in many different ways; medication, counselling, exercises as such but you cannot snap out of true depression. I sought counselling via my GP and then with a psychologist and I now take 150mg of Efexor and the difference is amazing and soon I will start to wean of them. Please talk to your parents you will be glad in the end if you do and I am sure it would break your heart if your child was suffering like this and couldn't or wouldn't talk to you.

There is no such things as Happy pills. But I understand how you feel. Do you go through moods like this often? Perhaps you should talk to a therapist. As far as pills go they don't make you happy but working on yourself to figure out what driving you to be so sad will make you feel better. It takes real guts to sit down with a therapist and work on why you are so unhappy but at the end it really pays off. I know from experience both with Therapy and pill the combination has really helped.

I don't no how old you are but depression is a disease, ( Ive suffered for 30 years 15 of which I didn't no what was wrong with me) But you need to talk to your parent's and see a doc if this an ongoing thing the meds they give you are for your own good and are not happy pill's they are life saving drugs that work if taken properly. Good luck

You do have symptoms of depression, and the most worrisome is your suicidal ideas. Don't hide that to your parents any longer, for what would happen if you do harm yourself? I know you believe nothing would happen, and that you would not be missed, but from your parents point of view that would be TERRIBLE! They love you, and they would be so sad if you ended your life thay way.

And believe me, if they find out you are feeling "too down" lately, they would support you. And about the pills, let a physician decide that. Maybe you won't need them, but to be afraid of something that could benefit you and make you feel better is useless.

Isolating yourself makes the symptoms worse, so tell your parents, school counselor, or physician! There may be something causing your depression so it is really important to see your doctor. Treatment is very effective so you don't have to live with how you are feeling. Check out depression.com for great information. Do not go one more day dealing with this alone...get help now!

first, don't do anything stupid like drinking nail polish remover. it won't help. you have to find out the sources of your depression for you to really solve your problem. is it physical or psychological? is it something that you can solve or something you just have to learn how to accept? don't be too hard on yourself, you have to learn how to enjoy things. life is too short for you to waste time thinking you are depressed. do something about it. walk and observe children, it will cher you up (hopefully), look at life in another perspective. list down stuff that will excite you, like plans or food that make you happy.

I say this with complete care and understanding. You seem not only depressed but suicidal. However i am not a doctor or psychiatrist. So my best advice to you is to tell your parents whats going on and how you feel. Yes, they may send you to a shrink but in the long run you'll feel a lot more better. Believe Me. God Bless You and Please get help soon!!!!!!!=)

See a doctor, who will diagnose whether you are suffering from clinical depression, and in the meantime, view: www.depression.com/- and the blogs of Shan Eris on "tackling depression" at : www.myspace.com (http://www.myspace.com/7087317) and: www.relax7.com/7.php Also go to the medical and psychology sections of the library and read recent books on the subject.
