Universal joint is there to align the drive shaft only taking all the odds bumps keeping the drive shaft level. The input and out put shaft turn in the same direction.

Yes and no. The two shafts can't be perfectly aligned or the U-joint wouldn't be needed. Rotation is generally the same but the alignment of the two shafts differ. ;-)=

The shafts are generally at right angles to each other. So no they aren't in the same direction.

Answer: Yes.
And it IS close enough for government work. But if the government bought a universal joint, chances are it goes in reverse, is non-returnable, and they paid $10,000.00 for it.
