It's talked about because it is in the Bible. Our purpose is to spread the Gospel--this is a part of it
As far as it being near, to God it is. 10,000 years to us is nothing to God. He lives in eternity.
No one knows when the end will come, but we are still to talk about it to make others aware that it could be any day.

Actually some people started thinking that even in the book of Acts (around 40 BC).
There is an Hebrew saying that there was to be 2000 years without Torah. 2000 years with Torah and 2000 years of Messiah.
The first 2000 years ended when Abraham started to preach. The second 2000 years was at the time of Jesus' death (many Jews can not find any significant event at that time and think their sins have kept Messiah away), and the finale 2000 years is when Jesus returns which could be 3030 (if we have all our date right) with the start of Tribulation in 2023.

Do you realize that a thousand years to us is like a day to God, and they have been talking about the "immanent 2nd coming" for 2000 years not 1000?

Actually, they have been talking about it since the first century - 1000 years before that. There is evidence that may of the Christians at that time expected a return of Jesus in their lifetime. Each generation since has expected the same.
If you are going to mock it, at least take the time to learn something about it. You won't want to have your question make you look like the ignorant one.
But just because it has not happened yet is not a logical arguement that it will NEVER happen. The Bible says that people will scoff at the promise of Jesus' return saying since it has not happened yet, it never will - everything will continue as it always has. But that he will still come.

I totally agree with you. More importantly I don't get why those few don't like there here and now. God is everywhere and you don't need to be in some special place. Furthermore, there is no reason the believe the hereafter will be some wonderful place and every reason to believe God has an organization and work to do. We'll all be doing that work. Work is work, it doesn't matter if it's in the here or now or the hearafter.

Read 2 Peter 3......God is taking His time for a reason.....there are more to be saved.
Besides....it also says that a thousand years is like a day to Him....He is not long-suffering.....He is patient with us by His mercy.

Actually they started the end of the world stuff just after they first got together and the very first of these culties thought Jesus would be back before they died. The whole thing started as an appocalyptic death cult.

Don't ever mention the word Christ because Jesus is much better than you.
The only reason why you use the "X" is because you are inferior of God and it really bothers you that you are not in complete control of your own life.
The only ignorance here is your own.
Enjoy your Kool-Aid because where you will end up you won't be getting anymore of it.

The Bible says at the endtime many will say, where is the promise of his coming, since our fathers fell asleep(died), & they will begin to smite their fellow people.

There will be no second coming of a dead person. Dead is dead and dust is dust and blowing in the wind. You have my sympathy Christians. I truly feel for you that you wast away your life on wistful dreams but your Christ actually died dead forever on that old rugged cross and he is never coming back, never.
